BTW the title of this thread is very misleading...I assumed it would be a story about an old Japanese woman who hangs around the local train station offering her body to foreigners

If you hunt around a bit, you might even be able to find a brand spanking new bike for about 5000 to 6000 Yen.
Another thought: Many people go to the home centers to buy new bikes and just let their old ones in the parking lot. They might be a bit rusty, but you were asking for old bikes :-) If you ask someone inside the shop, you might get one of those for free, if you don't want to go there at midnight in a black jogging suit (just kidding)....
Check e.g. Royal Home Center north of Kami Otai station. I usually see heaps of old bikes in their parking lot.
