Does anyone live or work here? I have aquaintences here and would love to find a place, and a teaching job, here.
What is there to know about this area? Should I look it up in a Lonely Planet or something?
Hi
I live here in Asagaya which is in Suginami-ku. There`s not lots to say about it really. Its one of the 23 wards of Tokyo and as such its very convenient for working in Tokyo. The Chuo line runs through Suginami-ku into Tokyo. It is one of the main comuter arteries for the city. It gets pretty crowded. There are lots of Gaijin in the area and accomodation is there if you know where to look. Also I have seen quite a few schools advertising in this area, esp. Nakano Sakaue.
In terms of things to do, I usually head either into the city or out to the country. But there is lots to do and lots of places to do it. Koenji is a really quirky place. Its got lots of narrow interesting streets and atmospheric bars and isakayas.
I`m not intending to be rude about the place, I`m quite happy here. Its nice, not hugely expensive and there is quite a lot of greenery, but... Its not exceptional if thats what you are looking for. Think of it as just one of the big areas of Tokyo where people live. You wont go far wrong with that impression.
any more questions please ask me, I`d b happy to try to answer.
