Need help, Marriage and Job

Dear all, hope everyone’s doing fine. Basically, I’m from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. For Malaysians entering Japan, we require a VISA. Depending on your finances (bank statement required for visa application), the Japan Embassy will issue a Visa between 14 days to 3 months. My girlfriend is Japanese and we have known each other for 3 years. She resides in Tokyo, and the usual story is; we want to be together and in Japan.

If I were to marry her in Japan, what is required? Must I prove if my finances is adequate? If I do have some credit card outstandings in Malaysia is it ok? If I have a criminal record (shoplifting when I was 18..stupid but what is done is done) is it ok? Will the Japanese government conduct all these checks if they were to grant me a spouse visa? Any of you out there know what are the criterias?

If everything goes well, can my visa be converted to spouse visa (say for a year), so I don’t have to come back to Malaysia immediately?

Does an employer require still, a working visa?

I can’t speak Japanese, but my English is alright; generally, is getting a job there a problem? Right now, I’m actually working for a Japanese based Insurance firm in Malaysia as a Manager.

Normally your wife will act as your sponsor of your spouse visa so in other words is your guarantor. Usually you dont need to prove income as you are marrying a Japanese national. If she cant sponsor you her parents can act as proxy sponsors. You need to show you are married by providing a marriage certificate, copy of her family register in Japan showing you are her husband. Nowadays they sometimes ask a spouse to fill out a questionnaire asking about your relationship, where you met, how long you have known each other etc.

I mean from Malaysia I will apply a holiday VIsa, upon reaching Japan I will marry her. Hence, spouse visa. Do I have to come back to Malaysia first after that or I can continue to stay in Japan even though my initial Holiday Visa was only for say..1 month?

So with a spouse visa, I have a legal working permit?

I hope to get back to non-life insurance. However, seeing how difficult it is, almost anything will do.

No such thing as a holiday visa, some countries have what is called a tourist waiver where you can turn up at the airport and be admitted for 90 days on a 'tourist' visa.

I dont think Malaysia qualifies and you have to get a letter of invitation from someone in Japan who will guarantee you during your stay. May need to say where you are staying and who to contact etc.

Once you arrive in Japan you can change from tourist status to spouse visa if all your paper work is in order. Immigration may decide you need to leave the country, Im not immigration so I couldnt tell you.

Once you have a spouse permit you can do any job that a Japanese person can do.
