So while my Japanese skills are great for getting about and having light conversation,
they without a doubt are going to need (vast) improvement.
In my research for Japanese learning resources in Japan, (Tokyo area) I see that
the Harowaku has a Japanese learning program for English speaking foreigners that *appears* to be free of charge.
Has anyone used this?
Any information on Japanese language learning resources that won't cost me the farm would be appreciated.

Most city halls/ward office provide free or very cheap Japanese lessons, often one-on-one. The teachers can be hit and miss though, sometimes they're decent, sometimes they are crap. Kind of like English teachers! haha

I really like http://iknow.jp/. This site used to be free, but now I think they charge about $10.00 US per month. I like the site because it help with listening, reading, spelling all at once. Its seems to make learning more interesting. I believe it does have a free trial period.

If you are serious about learning Japanese, then you need a real qualified Japanese teacher. This is the site that I use.
It`s only 2000 yen for a 1 hour lesson via skype. The teacher that I currently have is a Japanese teacher at a university and the other teachers have outstanding qualifications. I take lesson once a week which is only 8000 yen a month.

Remember you get what you pay for.
