What do you think?

My intial impression is that it is too spotty - need more in depth coverage but don't know if that is possible or not. The other impression that I have is that in this case it would be good to have a scroll down/up button (unless I missed something) as opposed to having to click on each item. Now others will have other opinions and each news item may be sufficient for their needs for me, I prefer a fuller coverage of the story.

I don't like the news stories coming up as posts...at all. It's too hard to differentiate between the forums posts and news stories. HOWEVER, I very much like having a news section -- where I can go and check the headlines.

Can't there just be a separate section for news? Seems like 10 pages of new posts is...overwhelming. Info. overload...too much for this person to get through.

Or am I being a wimp and/or overly critical?

I also like the idea of news but think it should not come up as posts. Or perhaps you can build a filter to catch only news items, searched for news items, or everything but news items. After all, we are busy people and some of us are far too busy reading rude/inane/sarcastic/ sexual/ etc posts to bother with the news ;)

I don't like the fact that you can't see new or active posts in the jobmail anymore, kinda spammed over by all the news headlines.

Dont like it. If you want to run news, make a news section from the site's main page in a link or something like what news agencies do. As forum threads it seems... a waste.

i don't like it either
i like news of course ... in fact i hit my favorite news sites first thing in the morning...
but i think most ppl don't join a bbs for that..
it stops me from using the new post thingie... actually it makes the new post thingie quite redundant

Have been looking at it and trying it since my first comment above. Am not so sure that posters would want to comment on news items as such. Like Eku, I usually go to my favorite news sites in the morning but I don't necessarily want to comment on them.

Also I think the main page is more cluttered now. If you wanted to establish links to actual news sites however, that could be a real benefit.

Thanks for your input. We updated it.

First of all, the idea of the news was to give you a somewhat more substantial reason to discuss. ; )

A. To read the news, check our news section http://www.gaijinpot.com/resources.php

B. From now on only news with a handwritten post will appear on the forums (after clicking on "Discuss this article in our forums" to create a post in the forums). The post in the forums will appear under the newsarticle in the newssection. For example:

http://www.gaijinpot.com/read_news.php?id=869

There will still be empty posts, because if soemeone click on discuss this and then doesn't write a comment, the post will be empty. But then again: Don't worry: Empty posts will be cleaned automatically every 6 hours.

C. The news are short because

1. we cannot afford to pay for more detailed news
2. we also think to get a real insight you should use more serious sources
3. what we want is keeping you up to date (so you kind of get an idea what is happening in Japan and in the world (many foreigners in Japan just get cut off)).

Still neds some work though. Input always appreciated. We read it all with interest.

Yoroshiku.

Dear Ueberuser the administraor. Thank you for working so hard for us hard to please and demanding GPs. I like the news section very much. I live in a place where Japanese local news is hard to get. Great work!! foxy49
