betweeen leeds and man utd ,
having said that itlooks as though he the varicose veins of the stomach or eso___us I forgot where the PH goes .
Your veins just explode because of years of alcohol abuse ( my brother in law had the same thing ) he eked out another 18 month .
most people don`t make out of the OP theater.
The good thing is they will show highlights of his carreer or even make a documentary ,so all is not lost.

George was the greatest footballer never to play in a world cup, no doubt. God, if he'd only been English... we might not have to keep going on about 1966 and all that!
I once saw him play for Fulham in 1976 when he was far past his peak, body already prematurely aged by years of crunching illegal tackles from blockhead untalented defenders and alcohol, and yet he still played EVERYONE off the park. Nobody in the ground that day was fit to even polish his boots, let alone play football with him. Outrageous talent, up there with Maradona, Pele, etc.
Despite all the BS about him in the media, you can tell he is a 100% honest bloke who has lived his life full on the way he wanted. No prisoners, no regrets, no pandering to political correctness in order to get a 'safe' media image. Good on him.
As the great man himself put it:
"I'VE SPENT MONEY ON BOOZE, BIRDS, AND FAST CARS. THE REST I SQUANDERED!"

The year was 1967 Liverpool vs. Manchester United at Anfield, when he was at his best. I was in the Kop, and they saluted him. Pure magic on the field. He went down after Matt Busby left in 1969.
He is one of the last real footballers on this planet, a true entertainer, whom fans would be talking about long after the game finished. Forget overpaid louts like Beckham, who cannot string a sentence together without the help of his equally illiterate wife, George Best is the real thing.
His liver was gone, and now his second one has gone the same way. Regret he'll soon be on his way to those ivory goalposts in the sky, and his favoured booze, birds and fast cars! But long after Beckham fades in the memory as an advertisement for macademia chocolate, Best will be remembered as a footballer.

Hear hear! He shows today's so-called 'superstars' up for what they are, overpaid primadonnas. Christ, Best in his prime today would ____ all over them, especially since the football laws have been revised to protect attackers more than was in his day when meathead defenders could chop away legs and get away with it.
I'm so jealous you saw him in 1967 when he was at his peak. What a bloody vintage year that was. How many away players (and Man U at that) are so good that they get applauded by the Kop??!!

Not a soccer fan myself (we call it kick and kiss), but I'm sure George will look back with no regrets, having lived life to the full.
I much prefer characters like him to the likes of Beckham.

Trip Hop:
I don't really know much about soccer or football as it is called in UK but your post was really informative and entertaining. But yeah about Beckam and wife Victoria, the latter selling bras and lingerie (nothing wrong with that mind you) but both of them just raking it in millions upon millions. I think it sends the wrong message but who am I to judge on such things? Such is life on this planet. R.

Respects, Sir, but are you calling Beckham a character? I know the English language is an obscure business. What with your status I'll be giving you the benefit of the doubt that it was my misreading...
"Characters like him" refers to Best, not to the likes of Beckham!

His liver was gone, and now his second one has gone the same way.
He can have mine. I hate liver, anyways.
I saw him play against the Vancouver Whitecaps in the late 70s (??). He ran through six defenders and potted the ball past Bruce Grobbelar into the far top corner like the beer in the dressing room was getting warm. Or cold. Depending on how much we had civilised him during his short stay in San Diego (no relation to Maradonna). AND I'll bet he didn't have to pay Bruce for it later, either.
Best by name, Best by Game.

English and relieved, if it's the case. Care should be taken, mind, with the use of English...;)
Why? They used us two bloody world wars in a row, time we had a return go..................

He'll be OK. Have you ever known ol Georgie to lose to anything in his life?
He gives me hope. Him and Oli Reed are my kindred spirits.

Just checked the BBC website and old George has finally died...sad day for football. George, you were the BEST. RIP for the greatest winger the beautiful game ever saw.
-European Footballer of the Year 1968
-The Fifth Beatle
-The best looking footballer ever (Beckham don't even come close)
-and one hell of a party animal.

Also forgot to add that he brought hope and respect to Northern Ireland when it was in deeply troubled times.
From one Irishman to another, God bless ya George.

"He's gone somewhere where no-one can hurt him anymorec he's safe now," said his father.
I saw you at your best, and I saw you at your worst, but you were better than most of the riff-raff calling themselves footballers today.
RIP George.....
RIP George Best. They broke the mold when they made you
