Hi,

I'm quite sure this question was asked many times up to now. I was wondering, is it possible for a gaijin to work into the animation field in Japan.

Ok, I must say that I know how hard this can be for a native to work in such industry. It is in fact very hard anywhere in the world, for I am an animator myself. I know that usually salaries are horribly low, that you have to do 12 to 14 hours a day. I used to do that in my own country, and I dont really mind to lead such I live for I really like my job and feel very lucky to be doing it. At first, i wasn't even making $6 CA per hour a day. (it changed now phew!)

In resume, I know all the basic stuff. I've been learning Japanese for a couple of years now. So I can say that my Japanese lvl is conversationnal, but it does need a lot of improvement.

I'd like to work in Japan in this field for I'm looking for a new challenge and because this industry is still alive, if you compare the poor state of 2D animation worldwide ;__; Too bad I did not graduated 5 or 6 years ago, now I feel I'll never have the chance to participate in the making of a nicely and beautiful animated movie if I stay here. And of course because Japanese animation is very interesting and very often absolutly amazing! *bows down to miyazaki*

I want to draw!! Please, someone, let me draw!! -_- Sorry, I'll leave you out of my emotionnal crisis XD

If anyone had any tips for me, please let me know! It's pretty hard for me to figure out how to do such thing, since I've never been to Japan yet. (which will be no more soon, because I'm also planning a trip yay!!!)

Can I just send a resume and demo reel to a studio? They probably also ask to pass a drawing test as well. Any other things??

Thank you in advance!

Disney is dying. They are stuck in the same oldfashions patterns since 1940 (except maybe for their movie Lilo and Stich and one or two others).
Their popularity dropped because of that. And seeing the up rising popularity of 3D studios, like Pixar, they accused 2D itself of being oldfashioned... (which is not really the case, if you see what's being done in Japan). So they started closing all their 2D animation studios one after the other, all around the world. I think the only one left for 2D is located in Australia. O_o

Anyway, I don't really like Disney philosophy either.
