anybody heard of a visa granted to artists (visual art-painting etc) who wish to spend time in Japan and produce a body of work? do these individuals require invitation,sponsorship etc? a period of 6-12 months seems about right
there is an artist's visa that you can apply for but, from what i've learned, it can be difficult to obtain. a few years ago i actually started the application process for this visa, but did not follow through because i didn't have sufficient documentation or "fame" to actually get the visa. i went to the immigration bureau several times, and on two different occasions was asked "are you famous?" i'm not famous at all, nor have i had my art in exhibitions or in any galleries. if you've had that, or pictures of your work in any publications, you're chances are decent for getting the visa. you can get all the details about requirements from an official site(i think this forum has linnks to them)
