230 pigs burned to death in Yamagata blaze

TSURUOKA, Yamagata -- About 230 pigs were burned to death after a fire broke out in a pigsty here on Sunday, police said.

Police said the fire broke out in a pigsty next to the home of Genichi Igarashi, 68, at about 11:10 p.m. on Sunday, destroying about half of the two-story building. Some 200 piglets were killed in the blaze, along with about 30 of the 90 adult pigs kept in the building.

Yamagata Prefectural police officials said the pigsty was located about 10 meters away from Igarashi's home, across the road of National Route 345. Igarashi's family finished work at the pigsty at about 7 p.m. on Sunday and then returned home, police said.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.

Speaking of pigs. My father in law owns some land across the road from where the local Muslims have built their mosque. I'm trying to talk him into turning that land into a pig farm.

So what will you do when the pigs vacate the pig-pen and the pigs move into the place vacated by the pigs and the people who don't eat pigs tell the pigs that you've been a real pig to them so much so that they behave like real pigs and call the pigs and the whole situation gets like a pigsty and you can't tell the pigs from the real pigs and pigs are really quite clean don't you know.
