What exactly are "rote applications" for math and science anyway?

Most of what you posted was old news anyway. (That link was 4-5 years old.)

Ohh. Please!

rote 1 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rt)
n.
A memorizing process using routine or repetition, often without full attention or comprehension: learn by rote.
Mechanical routine.

ap·pli·ca·tion ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pl-kshn)
n.
The act of applying.

I dont mean this definition to be insulting... but it is! You should know the meaning of rote.
Now I know your 'American' (probably public schools too)

Yeah it is old news. I am wondering though, could you agree that it is relavent??
Perhaps that ever since it was old news... the situation persists -- or even gets/has gotten worse.

I do think it is worrisome that Japanese companies have reduced OJT spending. Dont you?
