So I recently bought a pair of jeans that I really like. The cut is supposed to be pretty special and anyway I'm happy because I never find jeans that accentuate by pert buttocks enough.
Anyway theyre "raw denim" which apparently you're not really supposed to wash. Or if you do, you're supposed to wash them carefully. SHould I send them to the dry-cleaners or handwash them or what?
Come on Victor... or do you even wear jeans?

If you keep your body (especially that pert bum of yours) spankin' clean and carry an umbrella at all times, you really don't ever have to wash your clothes.
I think I can speak for Victor when I say that he wouldn't want to snort laundry detergent. Well how the f*ck do you think the earth feels?

Five days a week.
My casual wardrobe hasn't included jeans in a long time. I never found them very comfortable. Of course, I never put a lot of effort into finding anything better than Levi's 501s.

That's a good point. I have one pair of jeans reserved for getting dirty and that's it. Summertime it is shorts all the way and when it is colder cords. This kind of weather it's lightweight slacks..although i'm feeling cold today. But heck, people who are still wearing winter clothes should be shot;)

Victor: I thought that might be a possibility actually...
Damn...
So what you guys are suggesting is just don't wash'em?

I tried a pair of levis on that said slim fit or something...completely lacking in the crotch area. The sales clerk was apologizing profusely telling me that this was cut for asian males.
As for Raw Denim...you shouldn't wash them straight away. Wait a few months or so before you do.

basically raw denim hasn't been washed which is why the color is deeper. If you wash it then it will fade and lose it's original shape. some people don't want this to happen so they avoid washing them as much as possible.
the color can also 'bleed' onto lighter color clothing so be careful what you wear with them and especially if you go out in the rain:D
If you do wash them, wash them seperately to everything else.

In private school, jeans were "dungarees" and were only worn for cleaning the horse stables. But the acquired bias is easier to overcome than a poor fit that constricts a very sensitive part of my anatomy.

We used "dungaree" in the States when I was in school.
Now I see the etymology.

That's funny because I had the same problem the other day. The jeans I've brought over with me are finally starting to die but every pair I've seen has been too short by an inch. I normally wear those with a 34 inch inseam, but every one I've come across is 33 inches and when I ask if they have a longer pair, the sales associates look at me like I'm from Mars.
So after much hunting around I find a pair that is actually long enough, but like yourself there was *no* room in the crotch. If I wore those my voice would go up by at least two octaves and I'd pray every time they were in the wash that they wouldn't shrink.
I still have a few places to check before I break down and either order them online, or get somebody back home to ship them for me.

Oh well, I am asian so I should have no problem fitting into jeans here what with my microscopic asian crotch.
MAndrake: Aren't you asian too?
No, I wear loose jeans so it's not a problem, I have never tried to go for the rockstar look...

No, I'm not asian and it's a fact that the cut around the crotch for certain cuts of jean in Japan are indeed smaller. Heck, I couldn't make this stuff up:D

Yah, it's a whole new meaning to the term tight-fit!
The guy in the shop actually told me even before I tried them on. He was like, nah-ah, not gonna' fit dude and I was like yeah...right, asian crotches can't be that small. But fegg me were they tight and resting on my hips. Then when I walked it was like they were going to fall off...hehehe, my GF got a good laugh out of it at least.

i love them, i have 25 pairs. i counted.
how i wash my raw denim: cold water, inside out with a special detergent called *woolite black* or some equal equivalent, the sheen goes away after a few washes but that's normal.
p.s. diesel makes the best raw denim.
if you want your jeans looking nice for a long time, don't wash them until they're dirty enough to get up and walk themselves to the washing machine. that's what book does. and he still smell good.

diesel makes 34, little one. they wont shrink as long as you hang-dry them. and if you're in hapone then that shouldn't be a problem.

Everything you own comes from Uniqlo.
And we know that's true coz there aren't no Zellers in Japan.
Where do you guys get Long Johns and gonch?

I don't wear long johns in Japan, and excuse this glaring lacuna in my sartorial knowledge, but what the bejeezus is "gonch"?

Until my recent conversion, I holeheartedly agreed.
Too tight in the crotch and the bum, pinching at the upper thigh, just plain nasty.
I was always a 501 afficionado, but after I turned about 24, I just couldn't hack them. Much as I love a button fly, my netherlands can't take being damned like that.
These new 511s I found for $6 a few weeks ago have made me rethink my opposition. Jeans really are great basic winter wear. No need for long johns, and they look much better than walking around in a pair of suit pants, and not as preppy boy as cords (I like cords, but they do look a little poofy when you aren't at work).
BTW, the tighter crotch and flatter bum of asian market jeans is a fashion thing. Since most Jpn men dress like Guidos, why wouldn't the slavish capitalist hordes play to that?

Long Johns in a suit would be overkill. I used to have to take mine off at work at the museum, due to the then new sexual sensitivity policy that dictated that all rooms outside of the collections would be heated to 95 fuggin degrees to allow the Osaka women to go around underdressed in winter.
BTW, Gonch = underwear, whatever your style and choice of fabric.

The funny thing about Kurogane's pronouncement on cords is that I could never possibly wear them for work. I only wear them casually. But of course we all know what he thinks of me.

Not in your line of work, no. In mine they actually help reinforce the stereotype. An academic who regularly wears a suit is hiding something.
I only wear them casually. .
I believe that. Hence my description of their appearance.
