Anybody knows if there is something called konyaku(fiance) visa?
I heard from a japanese friend who got a visa in the US applying to this kind of visa, basically means that you will marry your GF but you are in the process of setting up the marriage, wedding...
Does anybody knows if there is something like that in Japan?

None exists.

Japanese friends are not the sort of people to rely on for this sort of information.

Glenski is correct in saying that about Japanese , as om average they have no idea what a foreigner needs to do or go thru to get a visa.

think you'll find that trip-hop has answered more visa questions than both of them, and not just with simple cut/ pasting from mofa and debito websites. she has actually sponsored foreigners to stay here.

Does she run a print media co. in Shibuya? Sorry I guess that's private.

The MOFA website is from the actual government department that issues said visas. I would say its more reliable as a source and has issued more visas than Trip Hop has. Debito also backs up his posts with links, unlike some posters who like to shoot from the hip.
PS I doubt Trip Hop has sponsored any spouse visas or PR applications.

One problem is that the "MOJ", "MOFA" and other "official" websites fail to satisfy many of the posters here, who either cannot understand the explanations, do not qualify for any status of residence, consider themselves special cases, or are just trying to bend/ break the guidelines to suit themselves.
Many posters do not even understand the purpose of visas, or the terminology used. Just try looking for the "Form to Extend your Working Visa" at any Japanese Immigration Office.
MOFA issues visas to enter Japan; on entry it is cancelled, and after that it is the MOJ-DOI who authorise your landing permission and status of residence, which determine how long you can stay, and what activities you can do in Japan.
Makoto Kuroda's Visa Handbook, from Tourist to Permanent Resident, is probably more helpful, in conjunction with the official publications, as it actually explains the documents needed, how to go about applications, and some of the limitations. It also describes in more detail the types of visas, and requirements for each individual status of residence.
I've only sponsored working "visas", temporary "visitor's visas", or designated activity "visas" - about 190 of them to date. Don't know anyone who has sponsored a PR application; they are personal applications based on your own individual status and time in Japan, and do not require a sponsor, unless you count yourself.
Spouse "visas" are naturally done by the spouse, though seeing many of the posts here, the spouses must be too lazy, too busy, too stupid or just not interested to call Immigration to help their future husbands or wives, a great start to their marriages!

Not to mention the fact that 90% of new people applying for entry visas here are overseas university graduates, are in the top 20% in the nation in terms of education levels (leaving aside salary and job attractiveness, and figuring that many do not get past high school) are supposedly literate in English but can not even negotiate or understand a website translated in English by a government where English is not even the national language.

That gave me a bit of a chuckle first thing in the morning TH! More than a degree of truth to this I would imagine.
