Hi,

I have just started working through the level 2 kanji, and I'm just going to keep going through them till I've got all of them and then bust into level 1. I know it will take a while. The thing is, I am lacking in interesting reading materials. I want to read everyday, as is recommended, and I really think it would help, but I find the newspaper a little time consuming, with having to look up so many words and all. So I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to manga, books, or other reading materials that are more suitable for an intermediate level reader to get into. Thanks.

Take a look at the following, they may help.

How to Read a Japanese Newspaper 2001 & Newspaper Usage

Japanese Cultural Episodes for Speed Reading

Cross National Boundaries 国境を越えて 2 books one for reading and the other to work on grammar and pronunciation, etc.

Rapid Reading Japanese (Improving Reading Skills or Intermediate and Advanced Studies)

If you like literature, try Breaking into Japanese Literature

There are other sources. If you are in the Tokyo area I suggest going to Bonjinsha in Kojimachi. They have an excellent source of material to choose from.

Maybe you can start with some easy books written in furigana for children and step by step increase the difficulty.
