Has anybody read this book or even seen the series, it looks very good and sad too

I am reading the book+ the letters compilation in the Japanese version. She wrote it starting at 14 so the language is easy to understand, It is a short read. The series is sad but some of the characters irritated me with their sappiness and the same song plays every episode a few times.
