Hey everyone, my name is Mark. I am looking to stay in Japan for a three month period ...from May through July 2001. I would like to inquire about opportunities to work part-time as a conversational English instructor while in Tokyo. I have an interest in teaching "business English" ...I have a strong background in business communications including my current position as an AVP & Business Client Manager with Bank of America (CA USA). In addition, I have Japanese language skills and have taught Japanese students (private English lessons) in the United States. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Trying to find legitimate work here on a tourist visa is now almost virtually impossible. Would be best to find a company that will sponsor your working visa, but since you're only coming for three months.......

Anyway, since everything in Japan starts in April (fiscal year, school year etc.), from now into March is the best time to look for a job (even if you will be arriving in May).

Go to the nearest library that has the Japan Times and read the Monday edition.

They have lots of listings for teaching jobs and I've seen many recently that advertise business English classes.

Good luck

You can try checking Tokyo Classified, a free weekly magazine, for people looking for English teachers on a one-to-one basis. I don't think you will find many opportunities to teach business English at a company for such a short period but you can probably find individuals who want someone to tutor them in business English. Standard hourly rate should be 2,500 an hour minimum.
