Hi all

Quick question for you wise people out there.

How would you rate my chances of finding a good English teaching position around Nagoya/Ichinomiya? Based on the fact that I have:-

1/ A spouse visa?
2/ A place of residence in Japan?
2/ A Batchelors Degree? From a good uni in England?
3/ Have worked in Japan for a year previously and have basic Nihon-go ability?
4/ Am 29 (is this too old)?
5/ Have no TEFL qualification?
6/ Can speak and write the English language as a native (except Friday nights when I slip into a bizzare Eskimo/Swahili mix, something in the local beer don't you know)

Am I employable as an English teacher based on these factors? (I appreciate that many other things come into play, but I don't wish to bore you with long character desciption, motivations etc.)

Thanks in advance

Have you looked at the sites on right here on Gaijinpot? The other place to look would be Daves ESLCAFE, there are often jobs in that area. I don't think that there would be any problem finding a job, but you might find that the competition can be a bit stiff. The other place to look that is not so high tech, Monday Japan Times, has job advertisements for the whole of Japan, every Monday. You have all the basics for a job, the biggest issue, is what kind of teaching do you want to do? English conversation schools (probably the easiest); Company classes( difficult for full time, usually done part time); or AET jobs ( in high school, JHS elementary school). The AET jobs are mostly full time, you can get info from local govt offices or private companies around the Nagoya area.

Hello;

I work as an AET in a junior high school in Mikawa. I got my job through a company called Altia, and so far they have been great. Easy working hours, lots of vacation time, company car, minimal interference from head office people, and best of all NO SELLING like at an eikaiwa. Their head office is in Nagoya, the website is at
http://www.altia-jp.com. Email for either Chris or Uti.

Best of luck!

Many thanks Susan and Douglas.
I'm heading out to Ichinomiya next March so I have time to do some ground work.

Thanks again
