I'm a librarian. I have a masters in library science from the #1 ranked library school in the U.S.--the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. I also did two years in JET from 1996 to 1998.

I'm thinking of coming back to Nippon in the near future with my boyfriendo who will probably do JET, but since I can't do JET again myself I need to find another relatively stable position. I'd like to keep working as a librarian, in a satellite campus of a university or in a private school for foreign kids.

It's hard to plan without knowing whether my sweetie will get accepted by JET, and then where they will place him. Anybody have any ideas?

JETs usually get placed in small towns where unfortunately they are very unlikely to have branches of foreign universities or private schools for foreigners.

I once met an American working as a librarian in a foreign university in Tokyo. I believe he also had a masters in library science. So it is possible to find this kind of job but I think even in Tokyo it would probably take awhile. I think people in these jobs tend to stay in them for a long time.
