I was thinking about going on an exchange program to Japan in about two years. The problem is, my cat is very attached to me. I went away for only a weekend and he just couldn't seem to handle it! I was wondering, how much would it cost me to bring my pet with me to Japan (provided I got permission from my host family and all), and how would I go about arranging such a thing? Any information would be most appreciated! Thank you!

I have a similar problem. I know that cats need to go through a 2 week med. check before being allowed in. I know there is a website on this but lost the address. Anyone have it?

Hi there,
My dog's arriving in two days. Can't say how things are going to pan out, but I'm going to try to opt for a home quarantine, allowing my dog to come home with me. My friends have been able to do this, but it's all contingent upon the mood of the quarantine officials, your pet, and the weather, and the way the stars are aligned. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees, but the official quarantine website says that it will allow home quarantines in special cases.
My advice, is to try to get your vet to lie for you, write a letter or something stating that the cat shouldn't be quarantined. Quaratine is around $30 a day, amounting to around $500 U.S.
Hope this helps...will let you know how things turn out for me in a couple of days...
(gasp!)
