A person I know wishes to move to Japan.
Problem is he has a bit of a past !! Convicitions for possesion and use of hashish and two drunk driving convicitions .
What are his chances of getting a visa ?
Oh his wife is also Japanese.

This has been asked and posted many times before.
If he declares the convictions, no chance of any visa.

o-kurogane - see the Japan Times p3 today on the revision of the Immigration law. Pay the fine, do some time and provide labour!
Employers' reactions can vary from rapid dismissal to nothing - unpredictable of course.
Wrote earlier of one person who was deported in August this year, after a week in detention - young white Aussie guy - Immigration violation 2 years previously - then they came for him. He might be able to come back in a year or so.....maybe.
Can only say, "It's your little life."

I saw that article. It is hard to blame them for cracking down on wrongdoers, and in their own weird way, they do seem to be trying to make it easier to be here for those of us willing to work at it. It is the anti-Brown People sense I get from a lot of popular attitudes and politicians that bugs me.
Anyhoo, hope that helps, OP
