WWOOF Japan Advice

My boyfriend and I have attained working holiday visas and plan to arrive in Japan mid March. After a bit of background research we understand that schools prefer applicants that currently reside in Japan. As a result my boyfriend and I have decided to WWOOF in Japan until we find a job. Have any of you stayed with WWOOF Hosts before? How did you find the experience? How many hours a day did the hosts families expect you to work? Would you recommend WOOFing?

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
