  • Best moving company for domestic moves within Japan?

A friend is considering moving from Tokyo to Osaka and he has a sh1tload of stuff to move (3 LDK plus a trunk room). Does anyone on this board have recommendations on the best moving company?

Ideally, he'd like one of the services that pack everything for you.

I've heard from one acquaintance that no matter which firm one choses, if one does not bring in three firms and pit their bids against each other, you are guaranteed of getting ripped off. Is this true?

I have used 0123 and was impressed with the service; they are the pioneers of the moving business in Japan.

Surely getting several quotes is advisable and I did so. But when the guy from 0123 showed up I was so impressed with the professionalism that I just signed up with them.

There might be cheaper companies but when you consider the value of your propertyc.

I got four or five quotes before I made my big move, and Ari-san came back with the cheapest price. I had no problems with them, and they do offer the pack-it-for-you service (higher price, of course).

Thanks! I've found both Ari-san http://www.2626.co.jp/index2.html and 0123 http://www.the0123.com/english/home.html and forwarded the url's to my friend. Another colleague at work told me she used DUCK http://www.88888.co.jp/ to move from Yokohama to Tokyo and was happy with the service.

Of the three, only 0123 has an English-language homepage.

I think an online search is the best option he has. This is how I fount Bronx Movers when I had to relocate. There were other moving companies too but this company fitted me the best. I don't think there are any problems finding professional movers in Japan, not when we have the internet.

              Hi,
I used kuro neko (for moving is not called kuro neko, yamamoto kuro neko maybe?... can:t recall..).
Moved osaka -> tokyo. i arranged 1 container, which was enough for 2 people belongings... in any case,
it did cost around 75k yen. Not sure if it a good price... but, they were fast, clean, realiable, careful...
so, i didn:t feel they stole from me.

website in japanese, although manageable. once booked, an english speaking person contacted me
              by phone to confirm.

              i hope it helps.

I don't have the company's name at hand, but I'm sure many companies offer this service. When a friend moved to Tokyo from Nagoya she made use of the return leg of the journey. That is she used the same truck someone who had moved to Nagoya from Tokyo ordered, since it had to go back anyway there was around a 50% discount.

You have to be very flexible with timing for this, and your friend having so much stuff might make the chances of a big enough truck having come from Osaka a bit smaller.

moving from inaka to a city

I find this thread to be rearry convenient!

I'm moving soon and I'm researching/scheduling my big moveout day with excitement.

My current location is inaka/countryside but I'll be moving soon to kanto.

In my case, would the aforementioned companies still be my best option?

                      I chose the0123

It is costing me 50,000yen to go from western honshu to central honshu.
                      2 suitcases
                      5 boxes

                      not bad, or is it?!

First they said 62,000yen, but I said 50,000yen and they said okay.

                      whatever though, one-time expense..
