are there many black people in japan?Page Title Module
So like, dude, are you like from the states or what?
I was asked a similar question the other day. A lady from the US asked me if there are many quote "African Americans" in japan. I said not many in this area, Kansai, but there are more in Tokyo I think.
I guess that Japanese tend to show more favour to the white people which means they are more likely to become spread around the country and generally more obvious. Other groups are not so lucky it would seem and so tend to congrigate in more select areas. Would I be right? wrong?
I think that in any given year, I would probably see no more than about 10 black (for use of a better word) people if I am lucky.
I live near Yokosuka, and see lots of types of people. At work, I see people from different racial backgrounds every day.
I`m bad at counting, but I see my Jamaican co-worker at least 6 times a day. My Barbadian co-worker moved to Canada a while ago, so I only hear from her... maybe twice a month. An African-American co-worker just transferred to another branch, so I only see her at big parties...
Anyways, I usually call these people by name, and categorize them by whether or not I like them...
I usually see many black people in Shinjuku, Shibuya and Roppongi, advertising for various forms of entertainment... there's also a few service people around Tokyo. They're definitely around, though. You'll probably find black people wherever you'll tend to find any foreigners.
I kinda wondered the same thing. I live in a gaijin house and have met an African guy from Cameroon and a Jamaican dude. We are here and spread across the country. Right now I'm in southern Osaka and I have seen 3 folks of color. There is supposed to be a group of folks that get together but the website has not been updated. Did you know that one of english schools, though small but highly profitable is owned by a brother from California. Anywho, I'm outta here.
