  • travelling from Nagoya to Tokyo

    Hello All,
I am a new student near to Nagoya. I would like to travel from Nagoya (or Okazaki) to Tokyo within 10 days or so. I would be very thankful if someone could suggest me the cheapest way to travel. Are there discount for student ? How much does train fare usually cost from Nagoya to TOkyo?
    Thanks in advance
    Studen

(Basic fare "joushaken" only. Extra for reserved seats and/or express / shinkansen trains)

I thought you couldn't use the Seishun 18 tickets during holiday periods?

Anyway, OP, can I assume you are a student at Yamasa?

No matter -- Why not take the bus? It's ~8,500 round-trip Nagoya to Tokyo. JR Bus. You can catch it other places though -- out that way, Motojuku, Toyota, etc. Motojuku is a Meitetsu Stn. just in case you weren't aware (it's Okazaki-shi but not Okazaki- or Higashi-Okazaki-eki).

You can't use the Seishun 18 kippu OUTSIDE the holiday periods.
I got one today, and it is valid until 20th Jan. You can travel to Nagoya for like 2300 if you use that as it is 11500 for 5 days.

I am planning to travel to Nagoya from Tokyo on 26th dec. However do you definitely need to reserve a seat in advance or can you just walk on and stand up if there are no seats??

For the overnight "Moonlight Nagara" train you have to book, as it is RESERVED SEATS ONLY leaving Nagoya.

          Check seat availability online here:

I am well aware of how to use these tickets ss I've bought them several times before (however, after spending 6 hours on a local train - from Tokyo to Nagoya...in August no less - I decided never for me again). I understand they are to be used during long holiday periods. That said, I thought there were specific blackout days if you will (a few days within the greater holiday period). Perhaps I'm thinking of the Meitetsu and Kintetsu passes. Just asked...that's all.
