Thread: Shipping to Malaysia

    Default Shipping to Malaysia

I know there's Balik Bayan Box which ships specifically to the Philippines by volume, and the prices look pretty good. Does anyone know of any firms that ship to Malaysia?

I've tried the following companies. Waiting to hear about prices from most of them:

    movingjapan.com
    shipmates.jp
    jluggage.com
    kuroneko
    sagawa
    and of course, Japanpost

    Have I missed any?

Hi. In the end I went with the post office. I sent out a dozen boxes each at 30Kg. They offer a discount if you send 10 or more (I think it was) boxes. I think the discount was 10%.

Kuroneko refused to deal with me as I wasn't a Malaysian national and hadn't got my work visa in place. Their box dimensions can work out a little restrictive, so watch out for that.

Some of the larger shipping companies which I wrote to stopped replying to me after more than a couple of emails of me asking questions - I decided if they couldn't be bothered with a potential customer then I'd be better off spending my money with someone else. Some were no good to me for some reason or other - I can't remember now but it might have been something to do with cost, air only, etc.

I have to say the post office were fantastic. They came around with a small van, the guy saw how much stuff I had and was on the phone straight away to get a bigger van over with two guys in. They even helped me out with a problematic snowboard (size was too big) and helped me repack it (i.e. make a wedge shaped box to circumvent the rules on dimensions). I could not have been happier with them. I gave them a large bar each of Cadbury's chocolate as a thank you.

Not all the posties know about the 10% discount, so you may have to find the page on the post office website to show them, or have them call up the office to confirm. Only one of the guys who came over knew about it.
