Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Blames The iPad For Killing Jobs

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL), who admits to owning an iPad, blames the Apple Inc. product for "eliminating thousands of American jobs."

"A few short weeks ago I came to the House floor after having purchased an iPad and said that I happened to believe, Mr. Speaker, that at some point in time this new device, which is now probably responsible for eliminating thousands of American jobs. Now Borders is closing stores because, why do you need to go to Borders anymore? Why do you need to go to Barnes & Noble? Buy an iPad and download your newspaper, download your book, download your magazine," Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL, Chicago) said on the House floor Friday afternoon.

Ironically, it was only last month that Rep. Jackson was promoting the Apple iPad and Amazon on the House floor.

I read about other politicans that flip-flop on my iPad...
... and thanks to you well_bicyclically, you helped me a lot.

Why not mention the fact that moves in techonlogy always brings about change but also creates opportunity. Yes the print industry is shrinking and jobs are being lost there, but there are many more jobs being created with the new technology.

The glass is half-full or the glass is half-empty sort of thing. Embrace the new technology and create many more jobs at the high tech end where the US can compete. All the manufacturing and labour which requires physical effort are moving to China, India and Africa! Jobs with higher value and higher education levels is where the US needs to look to, that is until the likes of China and India catch up (and that will not be long!).

Computers and robots also took away so many jobs and put people out of work too!

This is only the first step in the next level of technology and the jobs landscape will change. What comes next in regards to technology nobody knows and what that is going to do to the labour market and society as a whole. Change is constant, but not consistent. Those who embrace the change early will be ahead of the game.

I look forward to the major changes that technology will bring. Just looking back at the changes that mobile communications have made and the advent of the internet in regard to daily living and working practices one can see the major impact that technologies can make on the social structure.

    I say bring it on!

Yeah, you for example! You're from the States, right? You're whining over at the other thread about how tough you're having it here in Japan integrating and sh/t. Not sure 'bout your arse and whether it's fat or not (you seem to imply it IS, in the above post tho). Then, you're also telling us that you're a TOP I.T. Pro.

WTF bro! You're sitting behind your pc now, right? Instead of wasting your time away on this forum whining, why don't you start doing what you're good at? Hammer me some fackin' code and package that stuff! Go make some serious bucks! Then write me another book!

    Damn!

    A. I am 6"4 and 230 lbs. 5% body fat. I am an athlete. I am on the U.S. Kendo team.
Wanna have a friendly go, old chap? I'll be in Japan in 60 days. Should not be too hard to meet up.
    B. Who says I am not working on both an app AND talking to you, my trollius friend.
    C. Humility only goes so far. Keep it up, and I WILL find you and WE will have a friendly go. (Then beers on you afterward.)
    D. Not all americans are idiots. Indeed, the vast majority are, quite frankly the spawn of a drunken man's ludicrous offal, but not all.
    E. I like you, despite your lack of personality.
F I write children's books. Perhaps they are more your style? :P

    Well, considering I don't know anything of you other than you are a despised but tolerated member of this forum;
a pedantic spelling nazi, a shameless attention whore with overt tenancies of classic projection personality coupled with a bit of pedophilia and homophobia,

    - But hey, what's left but to attack your silly-assed avatar?

    Cheeeers!

We just cannot imagine what new things the technologies will bring...
I just hope I am sprightly enough to still get it up for my hot robot girlfriend.

Look at us here...20 years ago this was unthinkable.

That's primarily because they are 30-50yrs behind us on the technological ladder. Once the infrastructure catches up as it is in China then industries such as printing, bookstores and newspapers will suffer.
