    Default Odd Visa Question!

    Hiya's!

I live near Niagara Falls on the American side. I have a Japanese friend who wants to go see the Falls, and I'd like to take her to the Canadian side in order to see some of the amazing sites on both sides of the Niagara river. However, I'm worried that she'll have problems if she leaves America and it will somehow affect her student visa.

(Although we're on break now, so I think she's on a work visa for the summer).

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation? It's kind of odd since it's maybe 200m away from the American side, but could cause such a headache for my dear friend if we messed up her visa.

You`d do her a favor by asking American immigrations. They will know. I remember that when my Girlfriend at the time visited me in America I wanted to take her to Mexico and we could not because they would let her leave, something about third country nationals. If she is on a student visa, she can not be on a work visa for summer.

Yes, definitely ask immigration. There may be no problem, or your friend may have to get a reentry permit or equivalent.

I think if you get a long rope, firmly attach one end of it to a pole or rock on the US side, then proceed into the Canadian side with your Japanese friend tied to the other end (bondage style not necessary, but appreciated) then your friend should have no problem re-entering. Good luck and enjoy the falls.

Walking across the bridge to Canada is a common tourist event - don't bring anything bigger than a shoulder bag and you won't have any problems. Definitely ask on the way out, but it should be fine.
