Default Gift ideas for my first days

Even in the States, I am a gift-giving person, but I have always given gifts to people I know! I am heading over to Japan next month, and I want to bring nice gifts to my the people at my eikawa and a few extras for nice people I meet along the way. From what I have seen online, chocolates, beef jerky (weird!), and Trader Joe's are popular gifts, but I come from a pretty well-known city--Las Vegas--and wonder if anyone knows of popular gifts people are hoping to get from my town/country.

I'm a teacher, so money IS definitely an object. =)

Is CSI still popular? Some of my Tokyo friends dorked out over the C.S.I.-Vegas junk (shot glasses and t-shirts) I gave 'em last summer. What would you want from Las Vegas (...minus a few obvious gag gifts)?

Oye vey... This is like my forth period all over again.

"Ooops, remember you need a comma after the conjunction 'but' in a compound sentence."
    "LOL! You said 'butt!'"
"... anyway, as I was saying..."
