    Default Sending Money From US-->Japan

    Hi,

I will need to send money from the US to Japan in the future. I'm looking at options right now. I've looked (briefly) at sending to the Japan Post Bank thing. Also, I've spoken with Western Union (but the recipient would have to go to Tokyo to pick up the money it seems).

Does anyone have any experience with this? Any advice?

My (Japanese) wife tells me that I CAN'T send money directly from the US to a Shinsei ginko account. This seems strange and unlikely to me, but honestly many Japanese banking practices seem extremely strange and unlikely.

I've also been contemplating just getting a credit card in the States and shipping it to the recipient in Japan...I haven't looked it up, but it sounds like something that would be frowned upon if discovered (but I really don't know)

Again, any advice would be great! Thank you so much in advance!

I'm also wondering what the best way is to get money from the US to Japan. I'm living in Japan but I still get paid on my American bank account. Right now I'm doing a simple bank transfer which costs me about $50 total I think. That's not too bad but I'm wondering if there's a better/cheaper way.

I doubt that too. I've been doing simple bank transfers and it works just fine (except for the fees). Never did it to Shinsei, only other banks, but I doubt that matters.

General advice: Never listen to Japanese wifes that tell you something is not possible. When they say "not possible" they actually mean "not very common for typical Japanese people"

10 Seconds Google turned up the following: http://www.shinseibank.com/english/e...faq_ic_a4.html

So you can definitely do a simple bank transfer.

You can have a Multi currency account with Shinsei ban which allows one to have money in US./ GBP / yen / funds then it is a mater of just converting from one type to another , quite easy and simple. I believe Citi Bank is also good for this.

Thanks! The wife opened an account for this purpose in the future. We plan to return yearly and (god willing) be able to deposit money and wait for a good time to convert it.

Yet, we'll probably need to send money before we return. Have you done transfers from the US to Japan using Shinsei? How did everything work? I'm looking for the best (probably cheapest) option.

    Hi Guys,

We help people send money at rates and fees that are significantly better than the banks.

Our solution is a bank-to-bank one that avoids the wire costs. We've just launched our solution to Japan and I would like to get the channel going, so if you email me I will make sure the team does your transfer for free. You would charge your USD debit card online through Verified by Visa or MastercardSecurecode and the funds would reflect 3 working days later in the recipient account. Our exchange rates are transparent - meaning you can see them before you transact, as oppose to most other solutions that provide a rate after you've paid!

We have 150,000 clients already (none sending to Japan) and have been in the Money Transfer space for over 10 years. Have a look at our site: www.1stcontactforex.com. We hold an FSA, FSB and ASIC license and we're audited by each local authority where we operate.

I would really appreciate your feedback as this is a new market for us. We've had a great deal of success in the other 26 countries that we've developed a solution.

    Thanks,
    Ernst

Hands up who will be sending their hard earned money to some spammer??

I guess they only need one fool to do it and they can live like kings for a month at home in Ghana..

They do seem to have a website: http://www.1stcontact.com/forex/foreign-exchange.aspx

And the domain looks to have been owned since 2002, though that doesn't mean that the current owners have had it since then. All the names registered are in London, but again, that doesn't actually mean that they are. But if they are scammers, they are a step up on many of them.
The only thing in Japan that is harder than being a foreigner in Japan, is being Japanese in Japan.

Sorry about the spamming. The forum administrators deleted my posts. I just read the policies and I am not suppose to be selling our service on here. So apologies about that.

little off topic but hopefully you don't live in New York, Masschusetts or California alert-pay no longer sends international payments if you live in 1 of those states due to new regulations by the legislators
