    Question homestay english tutor, Kyoto

Hi guys I used to live in Korea "to study Korean" and while I was there one of my friends was able to find a homestay where he lived for free as long as he spoke english to the kid in the home.
I'm hoping to move to kyoto before the end of this year to study Japanese. One of my best friends lives in Shiga, and my girlfriend lives in Kameoka, so Kyoto is the only place that I see myself moving too.

If anyone knows how I can come into contact with this kind of homestay please fill me in thank you!

not in butt-f-uck rural Kameoka, I daresay. There was an ALT job going in a nearby city, Fukuchiyama.

hahahaha, kameoka's not that bad, I always had fun when I was hanging out there. But I was hoping to live in the city of Kyoto 'maybe' around Nijo..

anyone else know anything about these programs?? or maybe even know a family looking for a live-in english tutor?

Here is your one stop homestay shoppe for Kyoto city, and it seems, its environs, including (GASP!) Kameoka.

    http://www.kcif.or.jp/en/

    The KCIF, and I quote:

It consults variously assisting in the living foreigner .
While that little gem would lead one to believe their English services are limited (I have only ever spoken Japanese there), but they do offer a variety of services, and they are a lovely group of people.

I suppose your GF could always deal with them in Japanese, assuming she is Japanese, or speaks it.

They have an accommodation database called House Navi (RH side of that page); the search function offers a homestay search.

Depending on your priorities and proclivities, I would recommend living in Kyoto city proper. It's a lovely city to live in, and it's certain to be way more interesting than Kame-F'in-oka . Depending on where you are in Kyoto, you can actually get to Kameoka by bicycle.

We can even tell you where the best bar in town is.

And there it is. Yell if you need more help.

Thank you for that site! It looks like exactly what I was looking for!!!!! my girfriend is Japanese so I guess I'll ask her to call them for me later

yea, I agree. I need to be in the city if at all possible, because that's where my classes will probably be. I know I'll go to the Gym in Nijo because it's more geared towards bodybuilders "a rare gem in asia (>.<)", and I met a lot of friends in Korea through working out. Living in the Nijo area would be great but I think it's probably more expensive that some of the other areas. I guess I need to find a school and then decide where I wanna go.

In Korea koreans were so different that I had trouble clicking with them, and making friends, but I always got to know people in the gym and spent a lot of time hanging out there behind the desk and/or chatting with the trainers. My normal korean was decent but I could blow anyone else away when we had to talk about nutrition or exercise. I think it makes it a lot easier to cross cultural gaps when you have the same passion or hobby. when you're in a language school "from my experience" your quite isolated from mainstream society, and you MUST find a way to bond with people or you'll never learn the language.
