So you want to start a business that has a high percentage failure rate - you want someone else to take the financial risk - oh, and you're not in the same country ......

so how can you start a restaurant with someone else's money? BBQ cooking is called something similar to teppanyaki, and they are all over the place.

    Hi Chris,

    Welcome to GaijinPot.

I have been requested by the Nigerian National BBQ Association to contact you for assistance in resolving this matter. The Nigerian National BBQ Association has recently concluded a large number of contracts for BBQ ventures in the kanto region of Japan. The contracts have immediately produced money equalling 400,000,000円 The Nigerian National BBQ Association is active in all prefectures in Japan, however, because of certain regulations of the Nigerian Government, it is unable to move these funds to another prefecture.

Your assistance is requested as a non-Nigerian citizen to assist the Nigerian National BBQ Association, and also the Central Bank of Nigeria, in moving these funds out of the Tokyo prefecture. If the funds can be transferred to your name, in your United States account, then you can forward the funds as directed by the Nigerian National BBQ Association. In exchange for your accomodating services, the Nigerian National BBQ Association would agree to allow you to retain 10% to start your own restaurant in Japan.

However, to be a legitimate transferee of these moneys according to Nigerian law, you must presently be a depositor of at least US$100,000 in a Nigerian bank which is regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

If it will be possible for you to assist us, we would be most grateful. We suggest that you meet with us in person in Lagos, and that during your visit I introduce you to the representatives of the Nigerian National BBQ Association, as well as with certain restaurant owners in Japan.

Please leave a message at your earliest convenience. Time is of the essence in this matter; very quickly the Nigerian Government will realize that the Central Bank is maintaining this amount on deposit, and attempt to levy certain depository taxes on it.

You have a great business plan and I see potential.

I hope to hear from you soon.

    Regards,
    Mr. Ben Ahore

    Default go navy

The only investor I can think of who might be willing to help you is the U.S. Federal Government, most likely the U.S. Navy.

A BBQ place on a Navy base like Yokosuka might be very popular.

How can a pasty suburban white boy profess to deliver authentic BBQ?

    It's already available in Japan.

    Here's an example.

    BASAMICHI TAPROOM

BUSINESS HOURS - Weekdays; 5:00 pm to Midnight
    - Sat., Sun., Holidays; Noon to Midnight
    - Open Every Day

    ADDRESS 5-63-1, Sumiyoshi-cho, Yokohama-shi, Kanagawa-ken
    PHONE/FAX 045-264-4961
    (int’l +81-45-264-4961)

The Bashamichi Taproom is our fourth pub and our first in Yokohama (Kanagawa prefecture). Opened in January 2011, the concept is simple: authentic American-style BBQ matched with Baird Beer.

What is ‘authentic American-style BBQ?’ It is meat that is smoked and cooked over a wood-fire at low temperature for several hours (“Low & Slow”). This smoking/slow-cooking process is magical, rendering meat juicy, tender and richly flavorful. We like to burn local Japanese wood, particularly sakura (cherry), in our pit for this slow smoking which we believe lends a subtle and unique ‘Japanese’ character to Bashamichi Taproom BBQ.

We incorporate a variety of meats in our barbecue, including grass-feed Australian beef, American pork as well as Japanese chicken and pork. Except for the ribs, which are finished in our sweet savory red sauce, all our meats are served “dry” (i.e. with just a rub of spices) because we feel the flavor of the meat stands on its own. We do make from scratch three terrific BBQ sauces (sweet savory red, tangy mustard, and spicy vinegar) that reflect the traditions of three major U.S. BBQ regions: Kansas City, South Carolina, and North Carolina. .

We take equal pride in the preparation of our traditional BBQ side dishes, hand-made pizzas, fresh salads and home-made desserts. American-style BBQ and Baird Beer are a match made in heaven!

The Bashamichi Taproom consists of three floors (1st floor kitchen and bar, main seating on the 2F, and a roof-top beer garden and Japanese-style garden house).

A large-screen T.V., dart boards, and regular live music highlight the entertainment on our second floor. We are able to accommodate large groups and private parties can be arranged for our roof-top space. As with all Taprooms, expert wood craftsmanship contributes an ambiance that is warm, intimate and unpretentious.
The "pit master" of whatever you want to call him is an authentic real-deal American -- and also happens to be Jero's father.

I didn't know that 'the Jero's father deal'. The Taproom has awesome BBQ. The beer is quite good too.

To the OP: Have you lived in Japan and worked in a restaurant here? If not, that's the first thing you need to do. There is a culture here behind restaurants (same as all countries), and if you miss some of the finer points, your restaurant has about zero chance of success.
The only thing in Japan that is harder than being a foreigner in Japan, is being Japanese in Japan.

New Texan BBQ restaurant in Azabu Juban

    http://www.thebettertable.com/?lang=1

White Smoke is Tokyo's FIRST and ONLY Traditional Texas Smokehouse. There is no other method of cooking as authentically American as the “Low and Slow” smoking of meat found in the old smokehouses and barbeque joints of Central Texas. White Smoke is the first restaurant to bring the authentic American flavors and traditional smoking methods developed for generations by the “pit masters” of Central Texas to the patrons in Japan.
