Everyone has an Irish (Welsh) Grandmother (Great Grandmother) and a Native American (Italian) Grandfather (Great Grandfather)

It's so much more interesting you see...

    than...

"My parents were born here, so were my grandparents..after that we don't really know. Maybe England."

    I'm about a quarter.

    They come over here
And they take all our land
    They chop off our heads
And they boil them in oil

    Our children are leaving
    And we have no heads
    We drink and we sing
And we drink and we die

    We have no heads
    We have no heads

    They come over here
And they chop off our legs
    They cut off our hands
And put nails in our eyes

    O'Grady is dead
    And O'Hanrahan's gone
    We drink and we die
    And continue to drink

    O'Hanrahan
    No O'Hanrahan

    They buried O'Neill
    Down in country Shillhame
    The poor children crying
    And fe dee din de
    Hin fle di dinfle
Di din fle de din de
    In hey bibble bibble
    Hey bibble bibble
    Hey fle bibble de

    O'Hanrahan
    No O'Hanrahan

    We drink and we sing
And we drink and we sing
    Hey!

    We drink and we drive
And we puke and we drink
    Hey!

    We drink and we fight
And we bleed and we cry
    Hey!

    We puke and we smoke
And we drink and we die
    Hey!

It's a song by Dennis Leary called Traditional Irish Folk Song. It's off his No Cure for Cancer LP.

I love people who desperately claim the reflected cultural glory of being something like 1/64th of a particular nationality.

The other 63/64th's were presumably too mundane to grasp at glory....

Yep, still celebrating here. I suppose I should crack open a beer. Gonna avoid the corned beef and cabbage, though.

Actually, I think I might be 1.27.5th Irish, coz I'm sure I remember my dad telling me he once talked to an Oirish lady in a bar when he was a lad, and he also bumped into an Irish guy one time at work.

Does that mean I can pretend to be Irish and join in my people's celebrations? Gosh, I do hope so. Where's all my "I'm Oirish green clothes, now...?"

I can do a good Oirish accent if that helps...
