Default How to get international license in Japan to use overseas

I have a Japanese license but my Australian license has expired.

I can't get a new Aussie one as I'm not an Australian resident.

How can I get an international license here that I can use in Australia or anywhere else?

    Thanks

    Yep, I was wrong.
I knew I went to JAF for something about 9 years ago..
thought it was for the international license.. but it wasn't.. it was for the TRANSLATION of the English language license.

    My mistake.

Never heard of doing this. I've gotten three int'l driver's licenses in Japan using my Japanese license. Go to the driver's license office near you with a few passport photos and 2-3000 yen. Fill out the form. Get your IDP.

JAF is usually used to get Japanese translations of your foreign license. Never heard anything about them providing IDPs (not that they have the authority to issue drivers licenses, they are like the AA back home)

I would post a link for you but the Agropot Volunteer Hall Monitors have been deleting any links I leave.

    ....perhaps with good reason...

JAF is not involved in the issuing of IDL to Japanese license holders. the local police/local department of licenses are the ones you should be talking to. The police can take days/weeks. The local DMV can do it in a matter of minutes. My local in Itami, Hyogo also as the photo machine so you do not have to bring your own.
... and thanks to you well_bicyclically, you helped me a lot.
