StrongVPN for $55/year.
I don't know if they're the best, but I've been very pleased.
Timing has an awful lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.
just called LTE and they said that where I live the new signal will only be available in september. She made me change some settings to see if it gets any better, specially with Skype video calls. Gonna give a try later today.
ENF, how did you configure your GP01 so that you can download torrents? I've been spending almost all of my golden week to configure my utorrent but i can't seem to pull this through. i just learned today that i can actually configure my GP01? i've never read the documents included when they gave me my EMobile device. in displays "em.std". do i need to change this? could somebody help me how to configure my device so that i can download torrents?
I would highly recommend that you have the latest firmware, which is v3 as of right now. By now, I assume you know how to access your control panel at http://192.168.1.1 when connected to the GP01. Logging into the control panel, you can check the version by going to to "Settings" and then "Version".
My model is showing this version information with the latest update:
Firmware Version: 21.334.00.06.168
Hardware Version: CH1E586M
Lastly, my GP01 is connecting to eMobile with the following profile:
emb.ne.jp - This access point is for data plans without limited protocols (applications).
That's all I can offer right now...
Thanks. I just got this emobile around 2 weeks ago. heres my model info:
Firmware Version: 11.433.18.00.168
Hardware Version: CL1E589M71
I don't where to find that profile you are saying that GP01 is connecting into but when i check the connection status, profile settings --> em.std(D).. Im not sure if this is what u mean..
My details are as follows... but I'm not really sure what I'm looking at here:
Is this a firewall issue? Or do I need to reconfigure ports/uTorrent settings or something?
same problem here, ive changed the DNS settings, but still no torrent help.
just for some further help, you can now have the settings menu in english, its at the top right on the login screen.
any help on choosing ports etc for an an idiot would be massively appreciated
Others will pipe up but go with what I have explained and you will never have troubles downloading torrents! I don't!
i have talked to one of the customer service reps in English before and bluntly told her that I cannot use torrent. She said they are not blocking anything (except for the default ports which you can unblock in the settings) but the LTE version uses static IP configuration. That could be the reason why I cant seem to make my torrent work. My solution: I applied for another ISP and just accept the fact that I may have wasted my 3880/month subscription fee..
If you solve this problem, please post it here.
Having a static IP is not the reason why you can not make your torrents work, trying to use a crappy mobile device is!
I will try some of the settings you mentioned earlier to see if this is a workable issue. Perhaps, eMobile are just looking to minimize bandwidth use and have changed the way they set up these devices and plans.
If someone has the same set up and has it working, please post. Thanks.
I bought the Emobile GL01P 3 days ago. The speed is not so good, I'm averaging around 4-5mbps - advertised is 75 under perfect conditions.
I tried my friend's similar device - softbank 45mbps and got an average speed of 15 mbps in the same location.
Emobile do throttle / block torrents. I managed to solve this problem by using a VPN - I tried out this one http://www.hidemyass.com/vpn/ at $80 per year. (I went for a one month trial at $11 dollars) It's extremely easy to use. Download software > install > click connect. Then you can start downloading torrents right away. I managed to get an average speed of 300kbps while downloading a healthy torrent.
I'm going to take back the Emobile device anyway and get a refund. I may as well try and get the Softbank equivalent as they don't throttle so now need for a VPN and I can get triple the speed (I was getting around 1.5mbps on torrent downloads) .
i think someone will find a work around for it.
also i have noticed that different hosters seem to get different speeds
for example Rapidshare is so massively crap (about 30kb/s maximum) where as some of the other less well known ones can go up to 10mb/s..this could also be a day/night thing as well
also i think the I.P. thing is an issue as many hosting sites say you are already downloading/used up all your free XX for the day when you havent ever used it.
still can't use torrents though
super simple guide anyone?
Also, question for cmorofeo, is it true that Softbank don't throttle for their 45MB device? Is that the GP02 device the same as eMobile? http://emobile.jp/products/gp02/
I believe getting out of eMobile contract is quite expensive - are you going to fork out the cash and join Softbank?
holic, i don't have an experience with Softbank. what i have right now is the GLP01 device (the latest from emobile with LTE). I have spent several nights trying to solve this torrent problem. I have even tried masking my ISP via the Thor network but i still can't go around with it. you can actually call emobile and talk to their technical agents in english. and emobile does throttle the speed from 9 pm to 1 am (if i remember it right) if u exceed a certain data per day.
as ive said, i have applied for a LAN connection for my torrent downloads...
So, we have the same deal. On all other fronts, it's doing the job for me. Luckily, I have a local free wifi that I can use sparingly (it seems to block me if I abuse it) - I think this is city sponsored wifi.
I think in an earlier post someone mentioned some other technical specification that the GL01P has that thwarts us. Too techie and over my head, but sounds like masking is not the issue.
Enjoy your hikari!
Is there english customer service for emobile? I want to change my GL01P to GL04P. Because of download problem. Is it possible? Do I have to pay for? I just started using it 2 weeks ago. For any comments and tips thank you in advance.
No English customer service, they do not care because the number of English speaking customers is very low and if they had English support your questions would have already been answered! Those devices are not designed to be used for downloading torrents, they are also not designed for streaming video, what is so difficult about that to understand? They are designed to allow a user on the move to connect to the internet, and get their emails. They are also not designed for using Skype or Viber, streaming music. I know someone will come and post that they have been able to do this and that, well they got lucky and should be happy, but when you really consider what you are paying for the service and the device then you have nothing to complain about. You paid for crap and crap is what you got! If you want fast speeds and the ability to be able to download sign-up for a regular ISP connection. Stop being cheap, you'll save money in the long run!
What exactly makes you think that downloading will be any better with the GL04P.?

I need your opinion here. I apply this device at some Ueno store. Do I have to go there to replace it or is it ok to replace at any emobile store?
I've confirmed that using www.hidemynet.com and using one of the L2tp addresses they give that allows P2P will, in fact, permit torrent usage using the GL04P. I estimate that this will work on older models as well. I could not get port forwarding to wrk, as when I clicked apply, the port that I mapped did not show up in the listing. If anyone wants to tell me what I might be doing wrong, I would be most grateful. I could not add a range of ports as previously suggested, just as one would on a normal router, because the device does not allow for it. I could only add one port number, which I put as 60255. Should both the LAN and WAN port be this number?
At least for now I can use a VPN and get over 1 Mbps downloads for torrents using my emobile device. I honestly don't mind emobile and get very good connections with it. My only issue was not being able to download torrents. I don't mind being throttled between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. as I am at home then, so until 2014 rolls around and I will be throttled the whole month, I hope to use this solution to download torrents that are newly posted so that I can watch them during my free time after work. Still, if anyone has a non-VPN solution, I'd be grateful. I'd imagine the speeds would be even better. I would also like a clear answer on the STD versus GLB settings. My device gets no signal if I switch to global. Is this something you have to pay more for each month and, if so, does it allow torrents and such? I am only 3 days into my contract so I imagine that I can change something at no charge if needed.
Thanks for any information in advance.
With a friend we compared speeds for the GL01P and the GL04P and found no noticeable difference. But it might be location and/or overall traffic sensitive. I guess more testing would be necessary to be sure.
By the way, don't forget to update the GL01P firmware. I noticed a general improvement after doing so. And, for some obscure reasons, resetting the device from time to time seems to help too.
There are many negative comments about emobile around here but I must say my whole experience is not so bad (I am not a torrent user). First, I get full bar LTE at my place (which is a bit outside the city) while I don't even get 4G with Softbank. Then, download speed, which kind of sucked at the beginning, does get gradually better. I can now download an episode of Homeland in about 12 minutes which is fine with me.
You might have to do this :
You can choose to override your security settings and open the app anyway.
In the Finder, locate the app you want to open. Most apps can be found in the Applications folder.
Press the Control-key and click the app icon.
Choose Open from the pop-up menu.
This thread has probably been the most helpful of anything I have read on the net for figuring out these problems, but I am a bit confused as there are some contradictions above. A few comments state that by changing the settings in the dongle fixed the problem and subsequently torrents and vpn connections work fine. One commenter above said that he spoke in English to emobile and they plainly told him torrents were not blocked.
However, others state that emobile blocks torrents and other 'file sharing' and also that VPN is blocked as well.
Which is it? It his a settings issue in the dongle or does emobile actively block these services / ports?
I just purchased the EMOBILE GL04P LTE. I had the older dongle, the DW25 7.5 MBPS. Honestly, I loved it - I could do it all, torrents, VPN for netflix streaming, etc. It was completely unrestricted and 500k a sec was the norm in my apartment.
Now, after upgrading to this new dongle, I can't do anything at all. speeds are horrible. Nothing works - torrents, VPN, and even files I try to transfer over skype start out ok and then drop to like 10k a second.
So, my question then, is this a settings issue in the dongle? If so, could you please clearly post how you configured your dongle so that it works properly?
I noticed today on the emobile web-site that there's a firmware update available for GL01P: http://emobile.jp/products/hw/gl01p/updatetool.html .I'd been having a few problems recently with my GL01P suddenly disconnecting then re-connecting again (big problem during Skype calls). I just downloaded the update (allow at least 30 minutes) so let's see if it's been fixed...
