I want to discount my kokumin hoken

Hello, I searched for previous threads about this but I couldn't come up with anything.....if something exist just please point the way.

Anyway,

I just quit my job and am going to be studying full time at a Japanese school and I am planning on enrolling in kokumin hoken.

But, there is no way I can pay the amount they say it is.

I know you can go in every month and get it discounted....does anyone have any experience with this?

How much did you get it discounted? Was/is it a pain in the ___?
