Wink Photo blog of a PhD student@Hitotsubashi

    Hello everyone,

I'm Florent, and I've been in Japan since last October, studying for my PhD. I then started a blog consisting mostly of pictures about stuff encountered during my everyday life in Japan. Thing is, the blog was only available in French. But I just started to work on an English version. There's not much content for now, but hopefully I will soon catch up the French blog's rhythm.

The English blog is over there: http://flo-hitotsubashi-eng.blogspot.jp/

If you're a bit curious about Japan, feel free to have a look around

    Florent

PS: no ads on my blog (yet^^), so I'm not advertising for money here.

    Thank you for this.

    A. As I've only lived in Japan over 25 years, I can't wait to learn more about Japan from your bog.
    B. I always find it fascinating to learn the minutia of other people's boring lives. You know, things like what time did you get up this morning, did you shower first or have breakfast first?

    Can't wait....

I'm glad you enjoy it THAT much. I mean, after living 25 years in Japan, one would thought you've seen it all. It's great that you're still willing to take the time to learn new things.

As for the boring life part, well, sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not discussing my everyday's life on the blog. I know that's what the title makes it look like, but it's not. It's just mainly commented pictures by theme.

Oh, and by the way, If you're so smart, maybe you would have noticed the blog isn't meant for the likes of you, Mr "I've seen it all"

It seems to be less of a blog than more of a photo-essay with captions. As though you are commenting for people back home on what Japan looks like. Thousands of such blogs exist in Japan.

For people living here its not something that most people have not seen before.

I used to have a blog for a whole week.

    Then I realized nobody cares.

    Good times.

You're all so jaded, it's sad. Anyways, it just means that the blog isn't meant for you. I know that it won't be interesting for everyone, but you're very wrong in saying that it won't be interesting for anyone.

    Think positive guys

You are preaching to the choir by posting here. You are better off setting up a Facebook page and posting photos on there. Most people living here have ridden on the Shinkansen and taken pictures of buildings and vending machines.

You're not wrong here, but still, there might be some guys passing by this forum and not living in Japan (yet/anymore) who would be interested. Or not. I don't really know, but what I know is that 1. I don't like FB all that much ; 2. I mainly started the English blog for friends not speaking French, so "advertising" for it on different forums is just a way to get more people reading it. I'm not gaining anything from it, but I still think it's better than the "all to jaded" attitude^^.

Any person passing through would have to wade through miles of threads on GP and unless you constantly post the link it will just get lost in the shuffle. Maybe you dont like FB but a lot of people do and that actually use it. Not only that if you can get people to LIKE your page they will be notified every time you update it. Putting up a webpage and getting people to read about it should not just be about whats convenient for you. Like any business you have to market it and make it appealing so they come back. Otherwise i cant really see the point in doing it, unless its some kind of vanity project.

Im sure if I lived in France for 30 years I would become jaded to the French too, so its not as though being jaded is particular to Japan, its about becoming inured from living in one place a long time.

"Vanity project". I like the sound of that .

To be honest, there might be a bit of this. As for FB, I'm using it, and posting links to the blog whenever there's an update. But I also have people not using FB and wanting to be able to see the blog, so I prefer it that way.

But, again, you're mostly right. Let's just say that this post was written on a whim, just when I was too lazy to get to work^^. So if a few people see it and like it, all the beter. If not, well, I won't die from it.

And thanks for the comments btw

Haha, as my n00b status suggest, I'm just discovering this forum atmosphere right now . Anyways, any kind of answer is always better than none at all. And the comments of Kanseiben make a lot of sense too^^.

edit: btw, just updated the blog today with some stuff even those used to Japan might not have seen often, if at all. A bit of the special collection of Osaka University'library, with Edo period documents and stuff. Well, might not be interesting for most of you though

If J 'vloggers' who mostly consist of losers, arrogant little arseholes, little dropkicks, and fat diccheads who clearly are mentally ill (talking about J vloggers alive and dead here) can put their bullshiz, lying, whingeing, and endless procession of wankk like eating octopus icecream in Ice Cream City, "Shibuyaaa - ooooh!", "Oh looook - there's the Tookyo Tooower!" etc on the net, then Florent can post a blog.

Sure, we've all seen daily life in Japan umpteenth times but why get uppity over a French gaijin doing this? He probably will have a diferent perspective from the Americans who dominate the J vlogging and who have exceeded the loser levels of irrelevant information and self-ego massaging by their second video.

Whatever happened to that hot little Jewish American J Vlogger that always seemed to just sit in front of her closet organiser mesh/screen thingy and whine about the most mind numbingly asinine minutaie as though she were the retarded love child of Ayn Rand and Simone de Beauvoir raised by Bella Abzug????

I would have turned her into my own private porn star for the price of a beer.

She had those little naughty librarian glasses, and a great little poochie pie.

I wonder if she'd date me?

Why people yearn to have folks watch their slideshows is beyond me.

Hi, my name is Florent. I have taken a zillion photos of crap in Japan you see on a daily basis, but please look at them anyway.
I think it's true and that's good enough for me.

Surely by now all right thinking people know that amateur photography pollutes our precious bodily fluids and degrades our purity of essence????

Not to mention the body of weaponry it affords the Replicants in their nefarious schemes.

Such energy spent to attack my blog, I feel honored. No, really, that so much people are using their time to post meaningless comments just for me, it's way better than simply ignoring this topic

Just be careful. If you are going to stay here (Japan) for a while after graduating from Hitotsubashi (likely to a great job), then take care as regards what your public record is. So, no titties!

Interesting that you liked the fries at Hard Rock Cafe so much. "....Mais plus que le hamburger, ce sont les frites du HRC qui m'ont à nouveau agréablement surprises. Ce sont tout simplement les meilleures frites format non-belge (comprendre "type McDo") que j'ai jamais mangées. Bien entendu, elles restent un poil en-dessous des "vraies" frites bien de chez nous^^.

I know there's a bunch of things one has to be carefull about when staying a long time in Japan, but I never heard about that "public record" one... Could you explain a bit here please^^?

Well, I was suprised myself the first time. The second time just confirmed my first impression^^. We'll see about the third time though (plus, both times were at the same place, the Roppongi restaurant). Anyways, as with all the other kind of food, taste is mostly a private matter. By the way, what do you think about those fries yourself?

Oh, and update again! On to Matsumoto!

It means, quite simply, that if you graduate from H.U., a very elite university (for management and economics anyway), and get a job here and advance, if you post sh!t on Gaijinpot, etc. it will be available to be seen (a public record). That's all.

Oh ok, I was aware of that kind of stuff. That's why I don't put personnal pictures and the likes on the Internet. I guess that the content of my blog is ok for a maybe to become researcher^^.

Thanks for the comment . But I don't do it for G-pot, it's basically for some friends around the world, that's all. I'm just updating this thread at the same time, takes about a few seconds to do, it's no bother. And I enjoy the stupid comments too (which yours is not btw).

Don't bother with all this criticism.

What is the subject of your thesis ? Sorry, I'm curious.

Thanks for the comment. But since it's an English forum, let's keep in English. Or you can send me a private message in French if you want^^.

By the way, the accents didn't seem to have worked well with the forum. Here's what I got from your post:

"Très jolies photos. Moi qui déteste prendre des photos et vis dans la préfecture d'Iwate, ça m'intéresse. Je ne suis pas encore blasée de la vie. XD C'est dommage que tu n'écrives pas sur ta vie quotidienne en tant que doctorant (comment as-tu passé les sélections, toussa...)."

I could read it anyway, but I'm kinda lazy right now. Could you retype it without the accent please^^.

Oh, and I'm currently working on warrior's thought during the 17th century. The actual title of the thesis (being very much subject to change) is: "The Yamaga Military Art school, its place and role in the warrior's society - a study centered around Yamaga Soko". Maybe it sound kind of cool, but really not much is done at the moment, so it's all WIP right now^^.

    A+
