Thread: Port forwarding for Biglobe Flets Hikari (in order to use Apple TV)?

Default Port forwarding for Biglobe Flets Hikari (in order to use Apple TV)?

I just bought a first generation Apple TV and I need to connect it to the internet. I don't have WiFi, so I need to do this via ethernet LAN cable. My modem/router is a RV-230 SE with five LAN slots. I need to port forward to do this, and when I enter in the address 198.162.1.1, I get a login and password window. Other common addresses take me nowhere--this is the only one that brings up anything. I've tried everything, like "user", "admin", "root", my account login and password, left them blank--nothing gets through. I tried calling customer service but my Japanese sucks and I don't want to drag my (Japanese) wife into this yet--I'm barely grasping what I need to do and she would be totally lost.

So what's the trick with the passwords? I tried looking for a manual for the RV-230 SE but just get an ocean of nihongo. Have hit a brick wall trying to get this Apple TV going. Any help?

Default You could reset your router.

I looked at the manual. My Japanese is not great but... Check that you are using the correct ip address (you transposed two numbers but that's probably just a typo) to login to your router. The username seems to be 'user' and there is no default password - it is setup with first use.
If you can't remember the password, you can reset it. There is a tiny hole in the back above the lan ports. With the power on, and the lan cables unplugged, press the button for 10 seconds or I suppose until something happens using a paper clip.
Then wait for the Alarm lamp to go off.. don't know what that is. It does say though, don't unplug the router until the alarm lamp goes off.
Then when you go to http://192.168.1.1 you should be prompted for a new password.
Note: I wouldn't reset it unless I had my ISP login information on hand. You may have to set up your internet connection. On my router the info seems to be permanently stored and I can't change it.
    Hope this helps.

    Panageman--

Thanks for the reply. I didn't make a typo--the address that prompts me for a password is 198.162.1.1. If I put in 192.168.1.1 it just grinds away for about 30 seconds and then says no connection or whatever. I did the reset like you described, but nothing changed. That first address will then prompt me for my username and password for "Level 15 access"--whatever the hell that is. I'm guessing the ISP doesn't want people poking around the routers. Anyway, there's no way to choose a username or password.

When I go into system preferences (I'm on an imac, os x lion), i can't seem to find the router ip address. Maybe I should've checked: is this modem also a router? There are 5 ethernet ports, so I assumed it was.

By the way, where did you find the manual for this modem/router? Thanks again.

    I found the manual here:
    flets.com/pdf/RV-230SE/RV230SE_man0611.pdf
It was the second hit on a google search for rv-230 se.
I'm not sure what exactly you call these things. Mine is called a Home Gateway in Japanese. Media converter is another name I've seen. I am having trouble configuring mine, and I suspect that the major providers customize them to, like you say, make it difficult to mess with them.

That's funny about the address. The manual (and standards) call for 192.168...

You should be able to see your router address if you go to System Preferences --> Network and then make sure ethernet is selected. If you're using DHCP you should see IP address, Subnet mask and then Router.

I'll see if the missus can make sense of that manual. I don't know what the deal is, but in System Preferences > Network > there's no address for the router. IP address, yes, but nothing for the router. I guess this router is hiding it? Or something?

The IP address 192.168.0.1 is the default for certain home broadband routers in Japan. This address is set by the manufacturer at the factory, but you can change it at any time using the network router's administrative console.

192.168.0.1 is a private IPv4 network address. Home routers can use it to establish the default gateway. On such routers, you can access its administrative console by pointing a Web browser to http://192.168.0.1.

Any brand of router, or any computer on a local network for that matter, can be set to use this address or a comparable private IPv4 address. As with any IP address, only one device on the network should use 192.168.0.1 to avoid address conflicts.

Now to port forward once you figure which is the correct IP address, type it into your browser and when it asks for an user name, type "adm" or "root" and for a password type "adm" or "root". One of them should take you to your router`s homepage which will be in Japanese, Now you have to find: ポートマッピング設定 エントリ一覧 which basically translates to "port mapping setting entry summary " once there you should see a place to type in your IP address, the protocol you want either TCp or UDP and the port number or range of port numbers, for example 53423 if it is a single port or 53423-53424 if it is a range of numbers. Seeing as you said it`S an Apple TV it will probably not be a range of ports
