I'm gay but his opinions, however illogical, don't bother me at all. Fortunately, people with ideas like this are a fast-dying breed and in a generation or two, we'll be wondering what all the fuss about same-sex marriage was - just like all the previous fuss about gays in the military.

Attitudes towards homosexuality and same-sex marriage are changing faster than any other social issue, at least in the US, and most young people are now in support of allowing gays to marry. I suspect Japan will slowly change in that direction too.

Marriage to an animal does not equate to bestiality. Having sex with an animal does. Kitano illustrates how the line that says what is considered acceptable will eventually move to include marriage to an anmal - for those people who accept gay marriage. Others have said the same about bestiality.

People need to realize that Beat Takeshi is and always has been a comedian! He says stuff to try to get a laugh and he always says stuff that is outrageous/ That being said I do not find him that funny anymore, partly because the media tries to to promote him as someone that is important. Just because he can direct some good films and has played some unforgettable roles, people who have no clues about his comedy roots get upset because he says something that they deem as outrageous!

We have got to stop believing that people in the show business and sports industries are different than us, and treat / see them as no better than anyone else, with the same faults as the rest of us!

i think he's a great actor, and i think he's entitled to his opinion too. don't have to like it though.

i personally don't think gays are bad but i can understand that lifestyle bothers people.

I don't think he was comparing it to bestiality as such just trying to make a very poor joke about where the boundaries of marriage would be pushed next if gay marriage were to be allowed. I'm not a fan of Beat Takeshi myself and sometimes wonder if he's so revered just for being old and surviving a stroke, rather than any particular knowledge or wisdom he can provide. I certainly wouldn't put much stock in his opinion, particularly as he seems to have conveniently forgotten to consider that gay couples are both consenting adults and both can tell us so in a language that we can understand. When wanting to marry a dog, for example, I might think that those puppy dog eyes are filled with love and longing, and the sniffing of the crotch signifies the desire to take things further, but I'll never really know if it's me or the chew in my pocket that's causing all that sexy drooling so a walk up the aisle rather than regular walkies might be a little bit presumptuous....

By that logic anyone who is unable or unwilling to have children shouldn't be allowed to marry. Even more so for people who make a conscious decision not to reproduce, because at least the majority of gays don't choose to be the way they are.
