Not to my knowledge. An east-Asian person can at least fake being Japanese if they don't f*ck up their language use, but whites get laughed out the room so-to-speak before they get a chance to open their mouth.

If we're talking privileged country-of-origin (for instance, Americans getting less 3rd degree at immigration than certain other places), then there might be a case. But not for being white, at least not here in the last 20 years.

Yes, I`d say there still is an advantage to being White and from a Western country in Japan. How much of advantage these days I`m not too sure. However, being blond (at least when I had a bit more hair....) blue eyed and from the States certainly did work in my favor over the years be it with the ladies or finding a teaching job.

She said that Japanese know that she is not a native. I asked how they would know.

That concept does not apply to Japan due to 'survivor bias'. Most western guys are indeed college-educated professionals of some kind while the only place I've seen Africans are embassy officials or on the streets of Roppongi chanting 'topless-bottomless'. Funnily enough, India is still a poor third-world country, but all indians I meet are either well-paid IT programmers or work in restaurants.

As a non-white male, I would believe so, unfortunately. I get the impression they have it easiest out of all gaijin in Japan.
But you'll likely see few, if any, brag about it lest they look haughty and arrogant. If my racial group was the most admired in Japan, I'd also want to act modest and say kindly that other races can have it great there too, with enough
"dedication and hard work", sweet, encouraging words like that to give others hope!

There was a story recently that China only prefers to hire white people to teach English there, as they are thought as the only group best suited to speak and teach it in return where they are admired and exotic.

As whites lament of losing numbers and status in their own home countries to foreign immigrants, it feels like they can at least still find some refuge in East Asia.

What do you expect? Only the "strongest and best" of us Indians are able to make it out of their homeland and immigrate abroad. Not just anyone can make it. The same goes for Chinese and others as well. I've heard of many of my fellow Indians residing in Kobe for decades now and they are an extremely affluent community. I was internet friends with a girl who has been born and raised there her entire life.
