Say I pop a soldier in the mouth, dislocate his jaw and disappear onto the subway. Can the military do anything about this?

You better hope that none of his buddies are around. The US military likes to travel around in squad sized groups these days and they are becoming much more paranoid.

The military won't do anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if that military guy didn't kick the sh*t out of you before you managed to get away. It's not so much paranoia, as it is watching their backs for *sshole moves like this.

Not that it applies here, but I've had US MPs ask me for my ID in Itaewon (oops, Korea)...told them to get stuffed and they walked away.

I doubt they (US Military) would get involved but they do in situations like this: Say a young GI meets a girl overseas falls in love and they plan to get married. The girl tells the GI she needs $5000 or so for moving cost or wedding plans or whatever and then disappears. The embarrassed and dejected GI can report this to his superiors who in turn will contact the local authorities to see about getting the money. When the US Military gets involved the local police usually get off their asses and find the person or persons involved. Although how much of the money is recovered is anyone’s guess.

I knew a US military guy in Korea who went through this. He got back half the money but US Military pressed charges and the now ex-girlfriend was tossed in jail.

They could call the Japanese police and have you arrested. You would then likely spend 20 days in jail without being able to speak to a lawyer, by which time you will have already confessed to the crime. You will then be sentenced and thrown in a longer-term jail and have to pay whatever fines, medical expenses and injury settlements. Yeah, go ahead and do it.
I think it's true and that's good enough for me.

This of course, would be while he was recovering from the *ss beating he got from the GI.

Korea has a 24:00 curfew, for the military,so that is why you were stopped. Korea isnt Japan and they have different rules there because the whole DMZ issue. The MPs walk around with loaded guns for that reason also,in Korea.

Most likely nothing will happen because the Military guy has more to lose than you do by reporting it. If the guy is a jerk his friends will just laugh at him anyway and will not jump in.He will just go back to base and say he fell down or some other stupid story about being drunk. If the Japanese police get called be prepared for a long night,MP will come then they have to wake up a bunch of other people that have to be there, there will be lots and lots of forms to fill out in English and Japanese. So it will end up like being at the post office for 12 hours.Just a huge waste of time for you.

So, I guess that means you aren't a Nederlander, Deiter is a common name, obviously you spend all your time in the Dutch version of your parents' basement and you aren't in the military.

It was even earlier after 9-11 and the MPs patrolled with the local fuzz...I was once (just once) in one of "those places" on "the hill" with a girl who called the authorities (it was around 1130PM)....can you say "bounty"? She wasn't too happy about having to finish her time with me after I told the MPs I wasn't Amurican.

Without blowing too much OPSEC, I'd assume Deiter is here to spy on Kim Jong Il's lost cooking recipes with the chairforce.
