Default Teaching in Japan: What are the courses and Requirements?

I'm sorry if the title confused anyone out there, but it is basically a subtitled summary of the question I am asking.

My dream has always been to become a teacher in UK's public sector. I love kids, and I also have an affinity for Public Relations. However, as my profile states, I am a man of whom is "nuts" about Japan. But due to never actually visiting the country before, I am not well knowledged in its career requirements, in particular, that of becoming a teacher.

Now, with that out of the way, I would like to specify that my long term goal is to teach in Japan at, potentially, a High School Standard. The subject, in my respect, would be English Language and Literature, however, I find I also have a fascination for World History.

I know that first acquiring a degree in a chosen subject, as well as learning the language in basic terms of Oral and Written, is a requirement. But I am not aware as to which particular course is required to allow me to become a teacher in Japan.

I was hoping you guys may be able to assist me in this.

Thank You very much for reading.

Any reason you decided to post this in the general forum instead of the teaching forum?

If you want to become a teacher, get the necessary education. International schools want people with licenses. Universities want people with relevant masters or PhD degrees and publications. Most other teaching jobs here simply want someone with any BA degree.

If you want to shoot for teaching in a HS, there are a few options.
ALT work through JET program or a dispatch agency for work in public schools.
Direct hire in a private school.
International school, where you can teach any subject, not just English.
Rare direct hire by the board of ed in public schools.
Even rarer education in Japan to become licensed as a teacher for public schools.

You have to decide whether you want to teach English as a language subject i.e teach English as a foreign language, or English as a content subject e.g like you would learn it in your own country and taught to native speakers.

As Glenski mentioned, you only need an undergraduate degree to get a work visa.

Very few places teach English as a content subject except maybe international schools and some private high schools that deal with returnee and international students (and most japanese students are learning English as a foreign language anyway).

Teachers with a Japanese teaching licence are generally required to graduate from a Japanese education university.

I apolgise for the delay in reply, I've been on holiday and the internet connections (wi-fi or otherwise) suck at thr holiday camps.

I thank you for the replies to my original query and I am still ascertaining potential start points from other, varied sites also. I am confused about that last statement though, Harry.

Any further assistance is, of course, always welcomed. I also apologise for posting in completely the wrong section. Due to not actually being a Teacher, only researching the requirments for starting point, i assumed this section was best.

Another apology needs to be given aswell for the generality of my original post, incase it was not fully understandable. I am researching necessities as it honestly is a dream of mine. I know the results will not be immediate and, due to my generally procrastinistic and sheltered lifestyle, I understand that I may not fully have knowledge into the requirements.

Still, Thank you again for your assistance.
