Thread: Buying mp3s while in Japan

Default Buying mp3s while in Japan

I thought I'd be a good little consumer and properly buy the albums I want from Amazon.com's DRM-free mp3 downloads. So I add to cart and go through all the motions, just to be told I can't do that from outside the U.S. I don't want physical copies of the music (they waste space which is so valuable here in Japan, and cost more), so I'm not importing anything.

Another thread here from a few years back said that this restriction is not related to any laws, but more for regionalizing the markets. So, I want to clarify: could I give my credit card information to my parents (in the U.S.), have them purchase the mp3s, and then have them send the mp3s to me via e-mail or DropBox or whatever?

Yeah that was the first thing I checked out. The selection from the Japanese site is absolute crap. Example:

    amazon.com results for Nightwish mp3: 45 albums, 221 songs.
    amazon.co.jp results for Nightwish mp3: 1 album, 40 songs.
