Default Work VISA: U.S. vs Japan

Is the WORK VISA situation in the USA, the same as it is in Japan? I mean, I know that when I worked for GEOS I was warned about not letting them hold onto my VISA/Passport. I was also told that their name would appear nowhere on my VISA, so if necessary, I could work elsewhere. This didn't really matter much because I never strayed from them, but it was good to know.

Now that my girl is in the U.S., she wants to get a Work Visa at a salon. The Company name won't be on the actual Visa, right? If need be, and the job sucks 6 months down the line, she'll be able to quit and still use that VISA to find a new job, right?

The US has many many more status categories for incoming foreigners than Japan does. It just depends.

If you held a Japanese Visa in the past, you should know that only your status appears on the visa and the landing permission, but your primary company sponsor name does appear on your ARC and is recorded on your immigration records.

For the US, as I mentioned in another thread has much more complicated rules and regulations so it can vary depending on what your girlfriend gets. Any case, lets say she gets a US H1B status, there is no grace period if she quits her job, she's IMMEDIATELY out of status immigration wise and will have to leave the US if she doesn't want to be an illegal alien. If she wants to change jobs, she will need to file for a change of the H1B status to the new employer BEFORE she quits. The status is tied directly to the employer who sponsored it over. Again that applies to the H1B status, but she might qualify for some other status.
You don't want to mess up with US immigration if you plan a future on her coming back to visit the US or getting a US spouse visa in the future.

Again more dedicated US forums out there to answer US immigration questions.

Thanks for the info. Do you know where I can find more info on this from a reputable Japanese forum? I myself don't need the info., but if my girl could read it in her native tongue it would help out alot.
