    Default The UN

    UN suspends Syria peace mission

    The UN. The Useless Nations.

I tell ya what - if the UN ever set up a safe haven near my troubled spots or otherwise sent a 'peacekeeping' force to 'protect' me, I'd shoot myself and save my enemy the trouble...

If ya see a blue helmet, run like hell..

I have no idea why the States hasn't gone in alone.
Syria seems like such a great stage to send a pointed message to China and Russia...

    It's an election year.

All the more reason. The U.S could turn Syria's military to ash within minutes.
Assad is basically towing the religion and the region into the very stereotype that demands the average 1st worlder to say 'screw it, let's bomb away'
    And hell, let's bomb away.

It's a debate that is going on here in the U.S. Even Secretary of State Clinton is hinting that it's time for the U.S. to step in and help the citizens of Syria defend themselves. But President Obama is extremely reluctant to step into another conflict. It is an election year. He was elected in large part because he promised to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as close Guantanimo Bay. He's one-for-three on those promises, if you are willing to accept the notion that the U.S. is "out of Iraq."

The U.S. military will never go it alone in any conflict during the Obama administration. Libya is a perfect example of how the U.S. will handle conflicts until there is an administration change.

Obama's mode of operation seems to be pinpoint strikes using drones to take out AlQaeda leaders.

    .

Well, yes, they're quite good at that.

Then they stand around scratching their heads or their scrotums for year after year afterwards wondering what to do next.

Then they withdraw leaving a f&cking mess behind.

Do you remember the Powell doctrine?

    1. If you break it you own it. Iraq is a case in point.
    2. Do not enter a conflict unless you have overpowering force and you know you can win. Afghanistan is now in its 11th year.
    3. Most important you need the support and backing of the folks back home. Something a little more than US flags on porches.

The situation in both Iraq and Afghanistan is fukked. You want to know why? Because that is the way they were, are and shall be.
I would not say that is a good thing or bad thing. They like fighting. If they don't fight Americans they will fight someone else.
Were the Americans to pull out Afghanistan tomorrow there would still be about the same number of killings.
