Apologies if this has been dealt with before; did not find a similar thread when searching...

I moved into a place at the end of May. Since I do a lot of work at home, I was specifically looking for a quiet place, and informed the real estate agent of this.

At any rate, the place I wound up renting, two days after I moved in, they tore up the parking lot next door, and put up a sign saying a three-story building will be constructed. This is right next door, less than a meter separation from my building. Construction will be from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, six days a week, and I think it's gonna be impossible to get any work done at home while this is happening. I would not have chosen this place if I knew that was coming.

I've heard from several people that when construction makes an actual impact on your livelihood, you have the right to file a claim for compensation, but no one I know has actually done this. So anyone out there with experience of this, I'd be interested to know how to go about it. A real estate agent friend says I should approach my realtor, since they surely knew about the construction and did not mention it, though I imagine they will deny that. I'm not looking to gouge anyone, but realistically I will have to re-locate during heavy machinery /power drill sessions to someplace where I can actually concentrate on my work, and this is both a cost and an inconvenience.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
