Thread: Working visa for part-time job?

Default Working visa for part-time job?

    hey,

i've been in japan since the 1st of january on a double whammy of tourist visas. my second visa is about to expire soon and i wanna apply for working visa as i wanna stay longer here. i'm an aspiring rapper/producer so i wanna find a part-time job which can give me a lot of time on the side that i can spend on doing music. however, i've spoken to immigration and been told that i probably can't as a part-time job provides too few hours of work even though i would earn enough money to support myself. however, i was told that they can't give a 100% definite answer.

so, i wanna ask you guys about this. do you think you can get working visa for a part-time job? does anyone have any experience related to this?

    thanks!

You don't wanna hear this because you wanna stay here and wanna have a part-time job and wanna be a wanna rapper and wanna be a producer but the answer will be "no" if you apply.
I didn't wanna tell you that, sorry..

    prolly..

Short answer is, no you can't. If you could, there wouldn't be any need for full time contracts and visa sponsorship.

Sorry, I know you didn't wanna hear it but I wanna be honest because you don't wanna waste your time if you cant do what you wanna do.

I wanna wish you luck with what you wanna do, though.

hennagaijin: you are trying to make it seem as if i'm upset to hear that a part-time job can't land me a working visa. however, it's clear that you are the one who seems upset as you choose to reply to my serious inquiry with an attempt to mock me. if you were living a happy, enjoyable life you wouldn't do that. so, i'm curious to know the reason for your cyber bullying attempts.

do you feel small? often people take shots at other people to make themselves feel bigger. or are you frustrated with your japanese life and wanna take out your anger on other people? or maybe you're trying to impress other forum members?
you're probably gonna respond with another ridiculing comment, but i know that through the whole process of you coming up with a comeback and then typing and posting it you'll know that i'm right as you seem like a smart guy.

kansaiben: i don't have a problem with the fact that i can't get a working visa doing a part-time job. of course it's bad news but there are still several other ways in which i could potentially stay longer here. thanks for you input in the thread. all the best to you!

It may be self evident, but he's making fun of the fact that you use a purely spoken convention (wanna) in a written discourse, as if you are speaking verbally. "Wanna" is not proper English in a written. non-spoken context and it seems strange that you would take the trouble to write it the way it sounds when spoken. Most people would write "want to" instead. If that was the case you would write the rest of your post phonetically rather than in grammatical English. You shouldn't also just use the excuse that you are posting on an Internet forum in order to promote bad habits.

As an English teacher, I have spent the better part of my career teaching my students not to write and use bad English and when you have native speakers do it as a matter of style it just makes our jobs that much harder.

Dude, he's making fun of your crappy English.
The only thing in Japan that is harder than being a foreigner in Japan, is being Japanese in Japan.

Hmm, isn't "doing music" what you want to do for a living, not on the side? We all want free time, but your wording is circular.

I don't know about the entertainment visa, but pretty much every other visa has its requirement to be full-time in order to start out with the visa.

Immigration web site says this about the requirements:

In cases where the person concerned intends to engage in theatrical or musical performances, sports or other public entertainment ; the following materials are required.
A personal history and documents issued by the official organization which is certifying the career and the qualification regarding the activity of the person concerned.
Copies of the company registration, a statement of profit and loss and the list of staff of the organization inviting the person concerned.
Materials showing the outline of the entertainment site.
In the case where the organization inviting the person concerned undertakes the entertainment, a copy of the contract is required.
Documents certifying the activity, its duration, position and the remuneration of the person concerned.
In cases where the person concerned intends to engage in show business ; the following materials are required.
Materials showing the achievements in show business of the person concerned.
Documents certifying the activity, its duration, position and the remuneration of the person concerned.
