Thread: Lack of ’ÊÌ–¼ on the zairyu card

  1. #1

Default Lack of ’ÊÌ–¼ on the zairyu card

Just realized something, all my bank accounts are in my ’ÊÌ–¼. What do I do if asked for ID at the counter after the new cards are in place?

Edit - apparently ’ÊÌ–¼ goes on the juminhyo. Going to be annoying keeping a current copy of it on-hand for production when necessary though.

My alien ID doesn't have it either - and I have accounts under several names: English sur + English first; kana sur + kana first; kana first + kana sur; plus these combinations with a middle name inserted too. Generally - if asked for an ID - I can just use my atm card at the counter and enter the PIN.

I also commonly use my wifefs accounts – and so long as I have the right chop I have had no problems. She has accounts with her maiden sur and my sur too – and even though she has no ID that lists my sur, so far there has never been a problem.

Every renewal of the gaijin card (I'm on my 4th card now) I've had has had the alias (which is a non-"standard" katakana rendering of my name in "last first middle" format) right under the "official" romaji name. I've also gone to great lengths to keep my name consistent (the alias when possible, otherwise the romaji on my immigration documentation) in all records. Sometimes banks are quite insistent in using a particular katakana rendering of my first name that is not the one on my alias until I pull out the gaijin card.

I see... but I still don't see this becoming a problem for you - unless you need to open a new bank account (etc.) - which should happen so infrequently so as to make obtaining a copy of your Jyuminhyo acceptable....

I faced a version of this - with some banks insistence post 9/11 on using my name "exactly as shown" on my alien registration card. Which is why I now also have accounts with my middle name listed - even though that is not me, and hasn't been me since - well birth. They don't understand that of course.

Found out some actual hard data regarding the zairyu card contactless stuff. They're using the same hardware/protocols as biometric passports.

Meaning the people claiming you can point an antenna at someone and skim the data off their cards undetectably at distance are nothing but tinfoil-hat-wearing conspiracy nuts, since you actually need to read printed data off the card via barcode or ocr before you can pull any data. (The foil-lined passport cases are totally unnecessary too)

Really? That's going to be annoying. My health insurance card is issued in my alias.

What are all the Korean special permanent residents going to do? Does the special card they get have space for an alias?

People with a kanji name registered with a foreign government (*cough*china*cough*) can apparently use that name on the card, but people with no official foreign-government registration are not allowed, SPR or not according to the info I've received.

My health card is issued in my alias as well. Pretty much every document where I was not forced to using my passport name is.
