Short answer is yes. The long answer will follow as others chime in with various viewpoints on the teaching market and how one can actually stay in the field.
Can I ask how old you are, or at least what your current education is, and when you plan to be here?
Forget "english", get a high needs degree with a broad science background, and get a public school teaching qualification. Then do an M.Ed. After a couple year teaching experience back home or overseas start looking at international schools in Japan.
You can work long term as long as you have a full time job and employer keeps renewing your visa. Immigration requires a university degree for your visa, no major required. I would not advise putting all your eggs in to the Japan basket long term as the ESL industry overall has sprung leaks and is taking in water.
As mentioned get a vocational/professional degree and come over for a couple of years and enjoy the scenery.
