Default How to get a bank account in Japan without Gaijin card

I lived in Japan couple years ago and retain a Shinsei Bank account.

Currently I'm living in Hong Kong (hold canadian passport) and returned my gaijin card.

Is there a way I can get a bank account in Japan without a gaijincard?

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Thanks

Many banks are afraid to open accounts for non-residents for money laundering concerns. But some years ago, a colleague from Europe was actually able to open one at our company's local BOTM branch with the argument that 'he comes over often for business trips'. So it might be possible, but depends on the bank, the people you're dealing with and the background.
If you just state 'I need it, but I can't tell you why', it's rather unlikely to happen.
