Marginally better than maybe an article about the Cronulla race riots, but not exactly the best advertisement I could think of...

As I think shipio would put it 'your heart means well but your Burly Buffoonishness shows'

And typically Howard and Beazley are falling over themselves to say what a great guy he was... So glad I'm in Japan.

Was there anything terribly bad about Richard Carlton? Worse was when Kerry Packer finally kicked the bucket.
And yeah, I hate being in Australia recently. I feel less foreign here in Japan.

Same happened when Packer died. All the politicians want their spot on the camera to pose and posture about what a great guy/gal such and such was.

Wink Is there an English language version?

Hey, all I got was some insipid 8 second video of kintarou's long lost twin speaking in tongues.

Is that what I was supposed to get?

He asked the mine boos a question, didn't get an answer, looked at the camera, signed an autograph for a little girl and dropped on the spot. He wrote " Have a healthy life. Richard Carlton"

    Yeah, I heard about Carleton

At least those blokes got out of the mine, and were in a pretty good mood. They had been trapped since Anzac Day, April 26th. My favorite line was when they commented to recuers about the amount of seperation and overtime money they would get, and the recuers replied they get nothing if they are just sitting on their arses

I have just been searching for the words of Waltzing Matilda for a student of mine and I stumbled upon the American version!!!

Is nothing sacred! Aussies will be horrified, I am.

Once a jolly swagman sat beside the billabong,
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he sat and waited by the billabong
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me

    Waltzing matilda, waltzing matilda
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me
And he sang as he sat and waited by the billabong
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me.

Down came a jumbuck to drink beside the billabong
Up jumped the swagman and seized him with glee
And he sang as he tucked jumbuck in his tuckerbag
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me

    Waltzing matilda, waltzing matilda
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me
And he sang as he sat and waited by the billabong
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me.

Down came the stockman, riding on his thoroughbred,
Down came the troopers, one, two, three.
"Where's the jolly jumbuck you've got in your tuckerbag?
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me

    Waltzing matilda, waltzing matilda
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me
And he sang as he sat and waited by the billabong
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me.

Up jumped the swagman and plunged into the billabong,
"You'll never catch me alive," cried he
And his ghost may be heard as you ride beside the billabong,
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me.

For comparison, here is the (far better) original as written by Banjo Paterson:

Once a jolly swagman camped by a Billabong
Under the shade of a Coolabah tree
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
"Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?"

Down come a jumbuck to drink at the water hole
Up jumped a swagman and grabbed him in glee
And he sang as he stowed him away in his tucker bag
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me'".

Up rode the Squatter a riding his thoroughbred
Up rode the Trooper - one, two, three
"Where's that jumbuck you've got in your tucker bag?",
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me".

But the swagman he up and jumped in the water hole
Drowning himself by the Coolabah tree,
And his ghost may be heard as it sings in the Billabong,
"Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?"

A little off topic, but I saw a marching band last week. I was half-expecting them to break into Waltzing Matilda at any moment... I think I've had too many Anzac day parades!
