I was literally inundated with a request to start a thread about xylophones, so here it is.
Anyone out there play the xylophone?
Don't cuss the percussion!

Before you say anything, prepare to shut the f_u_c_k up.
this kind of xylophone is from my country.

the wav is not exactly like the original ones, but close.
we used to play this kind of music in elementary-jr high school.
or still have some traditional stage performance for some national events.
i've never managed to be given an honor to play one at the school, though

i had a girlfriend who was a xylophonist or percussionist as most people might say. what more can i say... she was nice, friendly, a little chubby, good sense of rhythm. that's about it. oh, and a decent player.
えいやーさーさ。。。
I have to give props to the xylophone. My daughter has a colorful little wooden one, and sometimes when I get stressed out I like to bang the sh!t out of Chopsticks or Twinkle Twinkle for a half hour or so. I doubt it does much for the neighbors, but it always helps me feel better.
But that's not to say I'm impressed at all by rock n roll bands who have tried to incorporate the instrument. White Stripes and PJ Harvey both have xylophone songs on their last albums that beg for them to be smacked on their wrists until they get back on the guitar and keep playing their two chords. Stereolab was almost convincing with it, but I can't bring myself to listen to them since one of the girls died in a bicycle crash. No thanks, I'll take my xylophone with Harry Belafonte, or Herb Alpert if the mood's right.
Not as my primary instrument but I can play the XXX Xylophone.
A few friends and I did a Syd Barrett tribute a few days ago in Inokashira park and I played "Bike" on a toy xylophone. It added to the child-like strangeness.
I love when they are used as a humor effect in music. Frank Zappa had a knack for that.
Sometimes they work best when they shouldn't like when Umekichi adds them to arrangements of traditional Japanese music.
They would be a hard instrument to sound sexy . . .
All hail the XXX Xylophone!!!!
I sometimes want to cram all the world's music into my head at once
